Well, Bonzo, I may indeed be a tight A$$, but I'm currently listening to a $2K pair of Tekton Pendragons and a $4K Lyngdorf integrated... And, come to think of it, another $1.8K of subwoofers...

There is still a restocking fee. So it is not a free trial. Get a job ! Got a job, 2 children and a wife that need supported. Colleges saved for. Plus right now I'm looking to replace my HVAC system, get my Chimney repaired and replace my dead lawn tractor. (Luckily I have a loaner from a friend, I don't need a heart attack push mowing my acre hill) I think I need a second job.

You have purchased a staggering amount of gear in the last few years. You still finding goodies at yard sales?

Well, Bonzo, I may indeed be a tight A$$, but I'm currently listening to a $2K pair of Tekton Pendragons and a $4K Lyngdorf integrated... I was just messing with you. Although you most certainly do have a different way of going about things than me, and many other folks here I think. Nothing wrong with that at all. Just different. Heck, I've never even been to a garage sale. Had a few, but never been. And I've never sold anything on e-bay. I might consider selling big things worth real money, but selling off lots of $5 and $10 items doesn't interest me in the slightest. And on a different topic, cars are most certainly NOT like refrigerators to me. But you are a much more picky SOB when it comes to peaks and valleys in frequency response bla bla bla. You are much more a true audiophile than me. And it's all good. I do have my own internal bet going with myself on how long those green dragons will stay put in your castle though. Tick tick tick tick tick tick.......

But there's a difference, because he's willing to do all the efforts to sell it too. He sells as much as he buys. So in the end he's not spending much either, other than a lot of personal time.

Time is as valuable as money. He is spending his "lot of personal time" selling gear.

I'm cool with that.

Time is as valuable as money. He is spending his "lot of personal time" selling gear. You're absolutely right. I invest both time and money in audio because I enjoy it. And I also consider the experience valuable. Most any speaker on the market I've owned at one time & listened to fairly extensively. So I think that all that listening allows me to know "good" when I hear it. Audio reproduction still isn't able to pass the "fool your ears" test. You can still tell that the music is reproduced, not live. My fave example for how good your mind is at telling "live" from "recorded" is that you're walking down a city street & hear music from a couple of blocks over. Despite the traffic noise, despite the building echoes, and despite all the other people making noise on the sidewalk, you can tell INSTANTLY whether that music is live or not. Your mind is that good at discriminating whatever it is that separates the two. When we get to the point where we can fool the brain into thinking that what we hear in our living rooms is live and not recorded, then we'll have something. I don't expect technology to reach that level of verisimilitude during my lifetime (despite some who claim that "everything to be known about audio reproduction is already known"). Cheers - Boom
