I kid you not. I had a THX certified sound system. It was this one Cambridge Soundworks megaworks 550d 8 inch subwoofer. 3.5 inch satellite speakers. "500 watt amplifier" No joke! Other than the sub, the satellites when connected to a good amp actually sounded better than you would think. Garbulky I had the exact same system when I was at the University of Denver. I was looking for a gaming unit that wasn't too big but could take on to the booms when play online multiplayer games such as Call of Duty and Halo. I believe they eventually came out with a 7.1 version as well. The unit BOOMED my apartment so much that my female "friend", who later became my girlfriend and now wife, would bang on the wall when she studied. Eventually she would give up and go to the library on campus.

I love the THX intro sound!
I also think standards like THX are useful, though I don’t feel compelled to buy equipment that has been certified.
