Well I posted my review within a few hours of listening to the card with no other optimizations. And well, maybe I might have been hasty to judge it as no difference. I'm still not sure if there is a difference. But I did shift some positions which I usually do to optimize for new gear which I hadn't bothered to do. And now I'm hearing some pretty good stuff. Lots of clarity and a seamless sound left to right.
But it's too early to say if the differences are real or not. I got some pretty great sound from both my blu ray player and my essence ST. I compared this song. using my Blu ray Sony BDP 5100 - an entry level unit whose transport I was impressed with and the Musiland Digital times. On the Blu ray player there was bit more low mid range warmth on the ukuleles. Which I guess I found just a tad more natural. On the Digital Times there was a slight shift towards a treble tone making it feel a bit clearer. But not quite the same mid range warmth. So I guess the body of the instrument was slightly more apparent on the Blu ray player. While some of that treble popped with the Digital Times. Now the blu ray player works using a Youtube app so it's hard to say if this was caused simply by the encoded format for the two.
I tried on this one
Here the differences were even less clear. However it seemed here that I might actually feel that the Digital Times had a teensy bit more resolution on the bass. The bass resolution felt slightly more impactful and the dynamics popped just a tad bit more. That may be that trele "tilt" on the ukulele notes I was hearing. While the mid lower mid range the Sony blu ray transport may have taken it.
Finally I tried Morgan James Rather be
At this point I was pretty tired. It felt pretty much the same with even less of a difference. So I stopped doing a to b and just enjoyed it. So after one day, I'd say that the differences are somewhat small with slight pros and cons - if there were any, which honestly I can't be too sure about.
What comes next is probably a bit more long term. I tend to experiment more with placement and just overall, what do I end up wanting to listen to more. The PC or the blu ray player. That usually tells me the "sub concious decision". Before it was the Blu ray player. Let's see what happens.

Garbulky, have you not been listening to KeithL ? He has been telling everyone that a DC-1 using USB is the ticket. Reminds me of Forrest Gump "Are you stupid or something" Just so everybody knows this, KeithL is the smartest cookie in the jar. Sounds like you called me stupid.... No need for that. We enjoy audio in different ways. Audio transports are obviously not your thing. No need to trash on a thread meant for people interested in audio transports. Something for everybody, ya know? I am not calling you stupid Garbulky. If I owned a Computer store and knew what I know about the DC-1 and anyone walked in and said "I want a card to put in my pc so my DC-1 sounds better", I would respond with "Are you stupid or something" with a big grin on my face. Forest Gump was not stupid ! His mamma taught him to chose the right thing and say "Stupid is as stupid does" when somebody ask him that. Choosing right from wrong made Forrest Gump the smartest man on Earth in a Movie and art imitates life.

At least he could run fast though he never got the girl.

Asynch USB is one way to avoid the jitter problem... Having an internal ASRC like the DC-1 is another... And using S/PDIF with an interface that has very low jitter is another...
I would expect there to be little to no difference between them on a DC-1 with the ASRC enabled... And perhaps some difference with it disabled...
In any case, $65 isn't going to break the bank, and S/PDIF works pretty well, so what's the big deal?
I would note, however, that using ANY sort of EQ makes your data stream NOT BIT-PERFECT. At that point, the card or driver is altering the audio, and, if I heard a difference, I would wonder where it came form. Using WASAPI insures that the data remains unchanged from the file, through the player, and to the sound card... but any processing that occurs in the sound card itself will of course change the bit stream...

Yes you are right. The equalizer unit can be defeated. And to make sure it also has a passthrough status light which highlights when WASAPI mode is engaged. I haven't engaged the equalizer yet.

DDMA is - discrete digital multi point audio. A way for HDMI cards to output more than one stream (?) of audio. We're curious as to the back of the circuit board - we are thinking about doing some mods.

Anything you have to add please do. Also who is "we"? Are you a group of engineers? So far, I can tell you the card has been rock solid stable. No driver hiccups. It just plain works.

I don't know anything about that card, or about the mods you're thinking of, so consider this just to be a general sort of warning.... This specifically applies to digital audio, and more specifically to formats that are critical of timing and clocks...... Be EXTREMELY careful about modifying things, and about the results you expect, and about confirming the results you actually get. And that goes double, or a million times, for things that involve clocks (people have an obsession with "upgrading clocks"). Things like spacing, and circuit board trace layout, and shielding, are super critical. You could literally upgrade the $10 clock chip in your DAC with a $100 one with much better specs, and end up making the performance WORSE - because you added 1/2" of wire to connect it. Of course, you can end up with a bad result with any modification, but digital stuff is often far more sensitive, the results more extreme, and the reasons less obvious. Likewise, there are a few more factors involved than many people think. For example, putting a little piece of metal foil on top of a chip might shield it from microwaves, but the added capacitance could seriously degrade its performance in some other way. I've literally heard of DACs that measure quite differently with the cover on or off - because the capacitance of the metal cover, an inch above the board, affects the stability of the clock. (I'm not saying that you can't ever improve on a design - just that, unless you know exactly what you're doing, you're probably more likely to make it worse rather than improve it.) I'll also repeat something here that I've said before.... based on a lot of engineering and design experience. There are some competent people out there doing mods, doing them very well, and sometimes even delivering actual improvements. However, to put it crudely, there are also hacks out there who I wouldn't trust to upgrade a flashlight...... We're curious as to the back of the circuit board - we are thinking about doing some mods. Checking to see what mods you are thinking about.

I got 5 generations of PC sounds cards in boxes in my back room and they all suck. You want good sound from your PC ? Get a Emotiva DC-1 and connect it to your PC with a USB cord. +1.

So I've been experimenting with WASAPI push vs event. The two sound very similar. However I feel like there is some difference between the two. I found that the Push version souinds more full. Uh, perhaps! From what I gather push is the mode where the Musiland pushes the data to the DC-1 vs the event where the DC-1 calls for the data.

Despite my aversion for USB, recently I tried the Mytek Liberty DAC using - USB! I would say this is one USB implementation I could perhaps get behind. It's pretty good. The Liberty DAC is also quite good. Switching quickly between DACs didn't put USB or my BNC Musiland connection at a disadvantage. Both sounded pretty great. I thought they were on equal footing. Which is more than I can say for my past experience with USB connections. (Still keeping my BNC connection though! )

i am still waiting for that card to arrive but in the meantime i thought of installing the driver and run that driver to see the musiland monitor control panel.
i am running windows 10, i have downloaded that driver but after install when i try to run it nothing happens there is no musiland monitor control panel?
Is this because the card is not there, so no control panel will pop up? Also may i know whats the length of the BNC to BNC cable you are using? and how much you paid for that cable? a basic 5m BNC to BNC cable cost $12 but the thicker Canare cost $80 , not sure whether its worth going for the Canare

I used 6-12 ft generic cables found on amazon for the price you mentioned $10-ish. I wouldn't spend any more than that. I think you'll be quite satisfied with the generic. I see that you are looking for a 5m cable. So perhaps those generics cost a bit more due to legnth. I don't know. I'd just get the cheapest one. I mean the card costs like $80! I think it's understandable that no control panel pops up because there is no card. I believe that happened to me too. PS: Quote me in your reply so I know you replied to my thread. I would be interested in how it turns out.

It appears all links to the Windows 10 driver (or any driver) for this Musiland Digital Times card do not go anywhere. Can somebody post this driver somewhere that I can retrieve it?

Okay, when I was hunting and pecking around in Musilands driver section, it seems like they revised their legacy site. The URL has changed to this:
www-old.musiland.cn/index.php/Download/get_file/id/75
It appears to download a file with this name:
MlVTMon_1.0.7.0_build20120822.exe
When I start execution, it advertises as "MUSILAND Monitor Series(Legacy) Driver".
Do you know if this is correct and the latest version for Musiland Digital Times?

Because all it does is pass it through. The version that I originally found simply didn't work. I had to contact the seller who gave me the link. But yeah that looks like it would be the right link then!
