I had to call Emotiva Support to find out how to adjust the balance on this pre-amp. Press the Direct button and hold, use the volume control to scroll to balance. Does anyone know of any other "hidden" menus and how to get to them for the XSP-1 Gen 2?

I bought this preamp off eBay and it appeared to work fine after I got it. At the time the only power amps I had were two Pyle PTA-1400's to check it out with. I noticed that I had to adjust the left channel on the Pyle power amp by turning it down to get the balance between the speakers correct. After I learned how to adjust on the preamp I found that they were set to 0 between the left and right, I thought maybe the previous owner had moved the balance and left it that way. So I guess the problem was in the power amp, I am using quality interconnects so wires wasn't in the equation. Later I bought my XPA-1 monoblocks, hooked them up and my Magnepans came alive! No problems with balance at all.
There was a huge thread in the Audiokarma forum about the use of balance controls. It is one of those things that you normally never use but when you do need it...

Is this a new firmware update? On my Gen 2 unit holding the direct button while turning the volume just raises or lowers the volume.

Not sure why some of you are having trouble accessing the Balance controls. I checked it again just to see if it was dumb luck but I was able to use these directions to get to the balance controls. Suggest that you give Emotiva Support a call and see what the deal is. It it is firmware you might have to give them a serial number to see if your amp is affected. I have called Emotiva and they have been very supportive.

Rumor has it, if you hold the power button in while standing on one foot wearing a tinfoil hat, you can get transmissions from beyond. 😉

For me, this only works when I press the "DIRECT" button on the faceplate and use the volume control knob, not the remote.
