All the threads on the forum acoustics never seem to be a topic of importance. Take the poll. Are you a DIY? If not what acoustics do you use and where? Pictures if available. I currently use some egg crate foam from Auralex and styrofoam difussers. Lately I have contacted GIK for recommendations and intend to redo my room with there products depending on the cost. I am not looking for cheap nor expensive. I am looking for performance

DIY Roxul Safe"n"Sound, huge difference in SQ in my little basement, IMO a must for getting the best out of your system that you spend so much time and money on. Chad

You use the same foam as I do. BTW, this foam is sold dirt cheap on amazon. Just search egg crate foam. It's likely the same stuff. What are those red things by the speakers? Is that for your sub?

I can't afford DIRAC (pun intended) so I use acoustic panels. Haven't run REW lately but last time I did it looked pretty good.

Yes the only way to fit all the speakers in my little room is to have them behind the screen haha With screen on and you can see some more foam panels on the door to the side

I have a small bedroom that I converted into an office. With the desk, closet, window and door location it is not very friendly for equipment placement. One of these days I will do a big shuffle and get it set-up for just 2 channel listening without the monstrous desk. My first reflection point is the opposite wall approx 12ft across from the speakers. I put the wedges pictured (got them on Ebay for pretty cheap compared to GIK etc) on the opposite wall and added some heavy curtains. The wedges tamed the living daylights out of the reflections and look halfway decent. Walking around the room doing the clap the room is pretty dead. Mark

What's an easy way or test to determine first reflections?

In the theater I basically turned the entire ceiling into a cloud and hit much of the side walls with absorptive panels. The ceiling is filled with Roxul, homasote and a fabric that covers the entire ceiling from FabricMate. It also reduces almost all light pollution from the trail of the projector. I'm throwing a 165" image about 19' away. A drop ceiling or painted one would show a large light tail. Scott Sorry for the cell pics on the first two.

What's an easy way or test to determine first reflections? This is an easy way to calculate if you would rather use a measuring tape and a calculator rather than a mirror. That is an awesome room Scott!

still experimenting with some ATS and GIK panels. They do two things 1) tighten up the bass and improve imaging. For me money well sent

My set up is across a corner with double layer curtains behind and on other windows, hence there are no first reflections. The listening area takes up less than half the room and the floor is wall to wall carpeted with acoustic underlay. The lounge room itself is quite large with exposed beam cathedral ceilings and the front speakers inc sub, face out across the large open space to the dining room. There was very little measurable echo which I have all but eliminated with one large acoustic mural.
In summary, lots of acoustic thinking but very little in the way of specific acoustic treatment.
Cheers Gary

I am almost near field listening. It sounds really good in there though for now. Mark

Glad to see so many here take room acoustics seriously.
