Interesting discussion. I think you are all missing the obvious...topology, board layout, and choice of parts DO matter a LOT! In my long history of circuit board design, I discovered early on that if you put two parts - say, capacitors - right next to each other and they have philosophical differences, they will quickly start bickering about it over and over. The warmer the amp gets, the more heated their discussion. At some point, their mindless chatter rises above the noise floor and disrupts the music. In such cases, a board layout that places them very far apart from each does indeed dramatically reduce noise. Mark Maybe what is needed is a Lounge or other forum-type dedicated section on the circuit board layout? Don't forget the cables and power cord upgrades to go with it. Mark

I wonder how many capacitors there will be at Emofest? ... And resistors.... and transformers....?
Look at this RMC-1... stop..resisting.... come.. here...now. You'll be inducted shortly.
(Wow, it's definitely Friday when I'm trying to make electrical puns)

WOW, I started this thread just to ask if the BasX was going to be available on Amazon any time soon. Well they are still not so I went ahead and purchased through Emotiva. Even with Amazon payments I was not able to use my Amazon gift cards which is a bummer. I will just save them for Christmas shopping I guess.
So now I have the wait till Tuesday for my amp. I hate being like a kid in the candy store waiting for new AV gear. I will this weekend get my TV stand ready. Considering that the shelf where the A300 is going is only 6.1/4" in height I will add a cooling fan to the bay, I have the temp probe on top of my Marantz SR5010 in the hottest area so it kicks on fairly soon into listening.
So I'm ready to rock come on Tuesday.
What should be the first group I listen to be?
Zeppelin Scorpions Rush Yes Queensrych The Cult

Why couldn't you use your Amazon gift cards thru Amazon payments?

Why couldn't you use your Amazon gift cards thru Amazon payments? Gave me no option to use them. not a big deal, wife already saw the charge to the credit card now she is out shopping. Not that big of a deal I will save them for Christmas + the others I get for woodworking. Just didn't want the wife to know I was getting a new piece of gear

The information on the fans was a great relief to me. I had visions of fans sucking in dust and making noise. Now, I've really fallen in love with the A-300. I am going through my entire music library and sound keeps getting better.

Just added a cooling fan to the bay it's going to go in any way, bay is small 6.5" H 18"W & 20"D. I already had the fan on hand and the Cooler Guys controller can power upto 4 fans. The temp probe is on the warmest part of my Marantz. When the top of the AVR hits 88f fans turn on and off @ 82f Come on Tuesday, I'm ready to go it will be about 10 minutes to install. Attachments:

Does anyone know what the peak current in ampers the A-300 is capable of?

I’ve been listening to my A-300 for almost a week so here are my impressions. (BTW: I am strictly a two channel listener, with no subwoofer, for music and movies.) To be honest my expectations were low for the A-300 due to the low price. After unpacking the A-300 I was impressed by the appearance. It was good looking, heavy and well built. The status LEDs can be turned off-on which is a nice touch. I could see a huge toroidal transformer through the vent holes in the case. It dwarfed the transformer in my Marantz PM8004. One issue bothered me though. Emotiva’s Site has a photo of inside the case of the A-300 that shows computer fans cooling the heat-sink. I am a little leery of these internal cooling fans over the long term. The amp is dead quiet for now but will the fans become noisy or suck in dust? The only other quirk is that the A-300 only accepts RCA inputs, no balanced inputs. This is not an issue for me because my Schiit Saga only has RCA outputs. So I wired the A-300 to my Schiit Saga and gave it a listen. When I first powered up the A-300 I was not impressed. The upper mids and treble sounded a bit grainy. It also seemed to lack detail. So I let it run unattended for 6 hours at a low volume. The amp changed for the better but I gave it still more time. The next day I ran the A-300 for another 8 hours unattended. Afterwards, I sat down and seriously evaluated the A-300. This is a cool running amp. After 8 hours it was barely lukewarm. I opened the volume all the way with no signal. With my ears on the speakers I heard dead silence, no hum, no hiss. Over the next week I played vinyl and digital material of all genres. My impression of the A-300 amplification is neither lush nor lean. It is a refined sound with excellent detail. Treble is smooth and extended. Bass is solid. I tested the bass with ‘Bass Mechaniks’ CD and found a small increase in the bass response from 40-45hz over my previous amp (Marantz PM8004), likely due to the increased power of the A-300. Imaging is very satisfying. My speakers are placed on either side of my fireplace. With the A-300, the speakers project a wide stage, from behind the fireplace to a point in front of the speakers. My listening sessions are very engaging and meditative. The A-300 is a damn fine amplifier. You can tell I really like this amp despite my concern over the cooling fans. I am surprised that Emotiva can sell the A-300 for under $400 and then offer a 30 day money back guarantee and 3 year warranty. There is nothing anywhere near this price, new or used, with the performance of the A-300. Plus, Emotiva gives you free shipping. That is a crazy good deal for such a high quality product.

Well, here I am 8 months later. I can tell all of you that the BASX A300 is still a great amp . I’ve had no issues.....none. The sound quality still impresses me. The match with my Schiit Saga preamp is just so effing awesome. I’ve rolled a few tubes into my Saga and settled on a vintage CBS/Hytron 6SN7GT. Wow, what a rush. I get detail, depth and lushness. The A300 delivers a transparent sound field with a deep deep soundstage. I know it has plenty of juice but I only use the A300 at conservative volume levels. It barely feels warm to the touch. I am so happy with my A300 purchase. I highly recommend this Amp to anyone looking for a high performance amp at a bargain price.
