So what I want to do is simpler than what most people want to do. I want to use a remote switch/wire combination to trigger my Emotiva 3 channel amp off and on. I do not even want to have my preamp do it like most people. I just want push a button, or flip a little switch plugged into the 12 volt trigger input to power it off and on. How can I do that? Would a wall-wort 12V DC to a switch, to the input work?
Hard to tell if I'm making this clear! :-)
IOW, If it was an old school amp, I would just use a 120 volt, inline, A.C. switch, or a power-bar with a switch but that will not work with these.

Just out of curiosity, why wouldn't you want the pre-amp to turn on the amp?
There must be a bigger picture I am missing here. If you want to be able to flip a switch that is connected to the 12V trigger it would likely be located relatively close to the amp. If that is the case then you might as well just use the power button on the font of the amp.

Try to never use a wall wort. The power supplies are horrible

Errrr.... yeah, but the trigger signal requirements aren't terribly critical. While some older switching power wall warts had problems with really light loads, most older linear "12VDC" wall warts, and most modern regulated ones, will work fine. Try to never use a wall wort. The power supplies are horrible

I have the Emotiva 3 chan hooked up to the center, and rear surrounds. I would like a switch so I can turn it off, leaving everything else on, without getting off my A$$! LOL Thank you for your answers. Any others for a simple switch going into the 12 volt amp input would be appreciated. :-)

Can you give us a run down of your equipment including any universal remote you may be using? There are a few ways to do this, but can vary depending on your equipment.

Related to Judd's question...why don't you want to use a trigger from a pre-amp to the amp? Does your preamp not have them?

More than you wanted to know:: sound.whsites.net/project156.htmGet out the thinking cap, soldering station and go buy some PARTS! The EMO ET-3 is pretty neat but very minimal. It SHOULD have adjustible time delay on outputs. Pre comes on and 3 seconds later, amps turn on maybe 2 or 3 seconds apart, each. Such timedelay relays for such low current / 12v contacts are Dirt Cheap:
