I heard these were being discontinued so I jumped on it and got one this week - and couldn't be happier. With my current set up (see below) i'm hearing deeper and clearer into the music than ever before. Complex symphonic scores and massed choirs reveal individual singers and instrumentalists in ways I've never heard before on recordings. What used to be the trumpet section is now three individuals playing beautifully together but clearly three individuals. What was once a homogenous alto section is now something much closer to reality. Great singers blending well but still distinguishable. This is so much fun and it helps me tremendously as I study for my work (I'm an orchestra teacher.)
After just one evening with this wonderful unit I give it my highest recommendation.

So happy for you! The DC-1 is a formidable DAC! Great versatility and value which is only dwarfed by its lovely sound! Enjoy. 😁

Enjoy that D.C.-1! I bought mine on a whim and was surprised a few years ago when I hooked it up. Great piece of gear.

The DC-1 is a very nice piece. And if you like cans it sports a very good headphone amp. too.

Quick question for folks who own this unit. Is it OK to leave it switched on, or should it be left in standby mode? It seems to run rather hot, and I am not sure whether to leave it on constantly like I do my Eagle 2 or in standby mode like I do my NAD.

Runs about the same temperature off or on but many say DACs sound much better warm and toasted for a week or so. Im one of them. 😁 Edit; apply no butter or jam please! 😋

I am so GLAD you got this piece of gear. it's an absolute gem. I'm glad somebody was talking about resolving the details. Because that's absolutely what I'm experiencing too. I don't know why this DAC isn't more sort after. It's fantastic. That and the tone. Very nice. I've auditioned some really good performing high value DACs that were more expensive and I've not found one that can make me spend the $ to upgrade. For the record, the only that came close is the Schiit Gungnir Multibit. The DC-1 and the Gugnir took the lead in differet types of sound quality but overall it was a more or less even match. The DC-1 for detail. The Gugnir multibit for a more well immediate and open sound. If you are interested, it's got great synergy with the XPA-1 gen 2 fully balanced class A amps. REALLY nice. But of course they are $$ and I doubt you are looking to spend nearly two grand. (But they are worth it). For a lower price though....if you get the Basx A-100 and the senheisser HD600 headphones (amazon) and pair it with the DC-1 using its RCA outputs. Take out the limiting jumper on the basx a-100 headphone amp as this set of headphones REALLY benefits from an amp with guts. MAN I guarantee your jaw will be on the floor. You know that whole separating out the instruments bit? Think HUMUNGOUS resolution, air, reproduction of the dimensions recording hall's acoustics etc. You'll hear everything. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. So if you got a Christmas gift coming to yourself....go get you those two things. INSANE. If you are interested in pics of the interals, I've got it in my review. emotivalounge.proboards.com/post/686988/threadAlso try this on for size! Voices of Music

Thanks for your thoughtful reply, and for the link to your review on another thread.
Have you ever had experience with a John Iverson electron kinetics Eagle 2 amp? I'm running the DC-1 straight into it with really good results.

First fly in an otherwise perfect cup of coffee.
I walked across the room just now to physically turn down the volume with the right knob. When I touched it I didn't feel anything big enough to shock me, so the zap must've been small, but there was a big thump and the DC-1 just stopped working. Powering down to standby caused another big thump, and switching off on the rear of the machine caused a third thump.
Switching back on at the back, and then switching on at the remote worked just fine, and I'm back in business. But something happened when I touched that knob, and it ain't what ought to happen.
I will update if it happens again. Otherwise this unit is nothing but a joy.

Call Emotiva Monday morning but don't expect a lively reception from whom every picks up, they will be out on their feet. Explain to any tech, (that hasn't been shipped to the west coast) they'll help you out. Good luck and enjoy!
