I only believe that’s true if they paid full boat of $2500 and didn’t take advantage of any discount (40% card, UFL, etc.), I would doubt many on the used market qualify for this. Just looked up the current offer: SPECIAL NOTE: The original HDMI (V2) enhancement upgrade was provided at no cost to XMC-1 owners who had purchased their XMC-1 from us at the full $2499 retail price. Many chose to take advantage of this offer, but some chose to wait. We are pleased to be able to offer the current new HDMI (V3) enhancement upgrade AT NO COST TO OWNERS OF AN ORIGINAL XMC-1 WITH HDMI 1.4b, WHO PURCHASED THEIR XMC-1 FROM US AT THE FULL $2499 RETAIL PRICE, AND DID NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ANY PREVIOUS HDMI (V2) UPGRADE OFFER. So, exactly what I said. True that many on the used market will have taken advantage of the 40% off card, but there will be some that did not. Good to keep in mind, however, to confirm whether or not a unit on the used market is eligible for the free HDMI 2.0b upgrade or not. Upgrade for Life does NOT disqualify from the free update to HDMI 2.0b. I know this because i confirmed it before I purchased this summer. That UFL purchases qualify is news to me, but I also think many on the used market purchased at the original $2000 price, by the wording these wouldn’t qualify either. Yeah, anyone hoping for a free upgrade would have to check each individual unit they’re interested in.

I don't think UFL should apply here because it's not the purchase of a new processor. It's a modification of an existing unit to provide additional/improved functionality.

REW stands for Room Eq Wizard, it’s a (free) tool for measuring and analyzing your speakers and room. www.roomeqwizard.comYep! REW IS FREE,,,,,,,the learning curve varies though! 😳

I would also add that the manual for REW is quite good in terms of explaining many basics about acoustics. (Take the time to read it and you'll learn a lot of good general information.) Also note that, if you use REW to measure your room, and calculate room corrections, you CAN copy the resulting room correction filters directly into the XMC-1. (You could enter the filter choices manually into the MC-700, but you can actually export them directly from REW as files, and import them directly into the XMC-1.) Upgrade for life, and the discount card, do NOT specifically relate to the HDMI 2.0b upgrade. Upgrade for life only applies to the purchase of a new processor - not upgrades to an existing one. Whether you qualify for a free HDMI upgrade relates to what you "paid" for your XMC-1 (but what counts is the "sticker price" and not whether you applied your 40% upgrade card to it). If in doubt - call in and we'll check for you. I don't think UFL should apply here because it's not the purchase of a new processor. It's a modification of an existing unit to provide additional/improved functionality.

If that's the case, other than for those who got in on the brief " 1.4b HDMI Board Clearance" sale, ALL of us paid full price BEFORE the discount... Don't forget... us early adopters paid the full MSRP of $1999 too "before" our discount... EDIT: Not asking for (or expecting) a giveaway, just trying to make some sense out of this...

From what I read from one of Dan's posts is that if you used your UFL or 40% card you do not qualify for the free board upgrade which IMO is ridiculous since the whole point of having the 40% card or UFL discount was to save on a future purchase of a processor as you are a repeat offender buyer so it was bonus to a returning customer, but now if you used that discount you don't get the free upgraded board that a regular purchase price buyer does, so what was the advantage of the UFL and 40% discount if in the end if you need/want the upgrade you have now paid close to the same as everyone else ?? What I think would be great is you get whatever discount on the upgrades as ypou did buying your processor, so if you had the UFL discount on the XMC-1 then you get the UFL discount on the new HDMI boards seems more fair to me for all us early adopters and returning customers. This of course is just my .02 Chad

For the record, I checked this summer before purchasing my XMC-1 w/Upgrade for Life, and they said I WOULD be eligible for the free updated board.

That is my understanding....... that whether you get the upgrade for free depends on "what your XMC-1 was priced at when you bought it"..... in terms of sale prices and discounted price..... but the UFL and 40% card don't affect that. And, yes, I'm pretty sure it HAS changed since the original announcement. (And I guess it could change again since the card isn't available for sale yet... but I don't expect it to.) So since the sticker price I paid was $2499, I get the HDMI upgrade at no charge even though I used my 40% off card? Keith says yes, but that's not what I remember from the original announcement, I'd like to hear it confirmed.

Read the same . What Keiths clarification says is more than fair as original XMC1 buyers were expecting HDMI capability for UHD sources ; hence the honest clarification from hdmi2.0 to hdmi1.4b by Dan at the time [ unlike other companies which labelled hdmi1.4 as 4k capable without specifying frame rates] . That's how it transpired as far as I recall [ which doesn't say a lot ] Thrillcat;s experience should be taken as good news imho

I was one of the original buyers of the XMC-1 when it was priced at $1,999. I used a 40% card and so ended up actually paying $1,200 plus $20 shipping = $1,220. Fantastic deal!
I'm fully prepared to pay the extra at this point for the new board, but will ask when it's time if I need to.
