I think I did mention in an earlier post but yeah there is table and cartridge connected. It's an AT120LP USB with the AT95E cart. The CP1 is a phono stage for Moving magnet only. I believe the CP2 does both and has a selector switch, mine does not. Just a balance control, inputs & outputs. The cart is aligned and overhung properly, tracking and skate force set, it's all level. Just an entry level table so in the future I'm looking at a Rega. Perhaps a better phono stage as well but I'll have to do my research.

That sounds like perfectly normal noise.
ALL electronic circuits make some noise... (even simple resistors) Because the signal coming from your phono cartridge is very low, it has to be boosted a lot, which makes the noise more audible. (Some phono preamps are much quieter than others... but, as long as the hiss is inaudible when you've got music playing, then don't sweat it.)

Ok I've attached a 15 second mp3 of the white noise. I also discovered while doing this recording it only appears to happen when the receiver is set to analog RCA input such as my turntable or tape deck. My computer is hooked up via HDMI & when I switch over to my PC input the speakers are dead quiet. The noise also increases if I turn on my TT's phono-stage (cambridge CP1) so that adds to it but wasn't on during the recording. It's just the noise floor of your pre-amp and nothing to worry about. If you could hear it when your volume is at a listening level then there would be a problem.
