I finally gave in and bought The Last Jedi today from Amazon for $13.00 (DVD, not the Blu Ray). After hearing/reading the mixed reviews I didn't feel motivated to watch it but I figured for $13.00 I could get it for posterity's sake and keep my collection complete, although all the others are BD, not DVD. My daughter told me it's a "Disney movie" which she didn't have to tell me meant not so good (as in hokey and made too cute and interfering with everything), but my son said it was worth watching. $13.00 on DVD to watch on a 43" plasma seems like a good compromise to me and I'll find out who I agree with. I got it in three dee.

It doesn't seem like a movie I would want to watch if it wasn't part of the Star Wars franchise but I owe it to myself to see it and form an opinion.

Sorry, flying at plaid speed. 😊 Back when they insainly put black men in major character roles, unlike today when they do it with women. Outrageous! 😉😁 Sadly, how far and how little we've come all at the same time. That's outrageous. Or discusting really. I think the new Grand Moff Emperor Darth Evil character should be played by Oprah and kill 3 birds with one stone. Oh wait, she'll get that leadership role in about 3-1/2 years, if she wants it. Forgot. 🤐

Or <ahem> Lando! or The Poor man's James Earl Jones!

So, I'm a Star Trek person, Star Wars always seemed (and still does) to be a poor imitation, without Gene Roddenberry's genius for characters. An alien science officer with pointy ears, an African American communications officer, a Russian ensign, a Japanese helmsman, in the 60's, unheard of, impossible, incomprehensible that Gene got it past the studio filters.
As a result I don't have lofty expectations for Star Wars movies, I don't expect them to be "great", they don't even need to be "good", just "watchable" with decent video, audio and effects. So I am never disappointed and The Last Jedi has really good video and audio, the 4K BD HDR is outstanding and the Atmos mix is one of the best I have heard so far. The 2.5 hours flies by, it's filled with action, that keeps me interested even if the story and character development are next to non existent. It's what I expect from a Star Wars, so it meets my expectations, no disappointment here.
Cheers Gary

See for me the most recent trilogy is much closer to the originals albeit with some updating. The prequels on the other hand were a cgi lego mess in comparison. In what Universe far far away does this look even slightly real?

Warning! It might just look like a Disney movie on 43" TV, way bigger screen and the sound will make it worthwhile.....

In what Universe far far away does this look even slightly real? Scifi is about imagination, and those cgi were well presented to go along with the story, even if they were not to your liking, unlike some other movies or TV shows that had good ideas but poorly presented....
