Don't you mean maybe there is A New Hope? Sorry, couldn't resist. I'll probably be waiting for it to arrive on UHD Disc. Since Disney finally released a UHD this year, maybe there is hope...

You are a year younger than me. My parents actually took me out of school to see the first showing of ESB in 1980. Holy Cow. Your parents kept you out of school to go see a movie? That can't be true. The morality of it. Yes, it's true. My Dad usually left at 5:00 am for work so that morning when I came downstairs and he was still sitting at the table I was surprised. My parents then asked me if I really wanted to go to school that day or if I wanted to do something else? They wouldn't tell me what the "else" was. So I was leery. But I went ahead and trusted them. And sure enough, they took me to see the very first viewing (in our area, Showcase Cinema, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan) of Empire. I believe it was a Wednesday at like 1:00 pm in the afternoon. We got there at like 11:00 am and waited in a long line. What also made it very memorable is that one of the theater projectors broke. With film, it takes 2 projectors to show a movie. The first one runs for 20 minutes and then they quickly turn it off and run #2. While #2 is running they rewind #1 and then load it with the next sequence and so on. But since one of the projectors was broken, they ran 20 minutes of movie, then we had a 10 minute intermission. They did that for the entire movie. 20 minutes movie, 10 minute intermission. Morality? I hope you aren't being serious? My Mom was a teacher all her life (until she had me and gave up her job to be at home for me) so there wasn't much more important to her than a good education. Letting a kid have a once in a lifetime opportunity for something as important as that to a 10 year old is far from immoral. I'd say I was one lucky kid to have such cool parents. I still remember that day. I'll bet not one other kid that went to school that day remembers any lesson they were taught that day.

Basically I was a very good student and they gave me a sick free day. When the note went in to school the next day it literally said he needed a mental health day. The first year it went around the whole school and from that point on every teacher loved getting that note. The caveat being no missing big projects or tests. This was in a catholic school in the late 70s/early 80s so Nuns were still smacking hands back then.

Last Jedi 3d review There's no spoilers other than what's in the trailer until noted.
When I leave movies I often wonder could I have done it any better if I had the choice (or ability)? And the answer to this one was no, I could not have done it better. Kudos to the trailer for not giving the whole thing away, another thing they did well with Force awakens.
They kept with the tradition of the force awakens and the original trilogy to use as many practical effects as they could. And the result as usual is FANTASTIC.
I like that this trilogy is going to be about a female jedi. How fantastic. One of the strengths of these movies is the overall design. Every piece of it is done in such a way that it's memorable and feels great to watch. From the fantastic ships, to the clothes to the strange creatures. Every bit of it was memorable.
Yes, this movie took the series in new directions but also kept the familiar Star Wars feel to it. A really strong showing of 3d here. With the depth in space portrayed wonderfully. The sense of scale, everything this is a movie to definitely watch in 3d. Just like Force awakens which was fantastic in 3d, they didn't skimp on 3d. And nicely, there's a lot more space in this movie to be enjoyed so good use of everything.
Also the director's fingerprints are shown here with a certain sense of style and direction notably in the cave scene and the throne room. Also Kylo Ren! Oh he really came in to his own here. Less angsty Anakin and more scheming manipulator! Good sense of ambiguity overall.
The cons (MILD SPOILERS FROM HERE ON!):
I hate to say this. But I think the issue with this movie is that it happens over a very short period of time. Some characters that seem VERY interesting aren't given quite enough time to expand their story lines. Some of the story lines honestly seemed like a side quest - just to give the characters something to do. But it still worked.
Same as the Force Awakens but at least there it had a point. Force awakens was about learning a new scenario while keeping things at a break neck pace. I expected this movie to now focus more on a more broader story. I hate to say this but ep 1,2, and 3 did this broader story (though to a terrible effect). But with 6 and 7 there is no break between the first and second movie. So overall with the characters and story, there's only so much they can do or go. Also some of the mystery plot points that's built up on the Force Awakens appears to be dispatched with rather abruptly or completely ignored. I think there's a reason for this. To keep focused on the situation at hand.
Now the entire premise of the movie was pretty strange and unrealistic - the bit about keeping one step ahead. But I could see they did this for a visual perspective.
(SPOILERS END!) Overall: I think I give this movie a great 8/10 or maybe a 9/10. With Force awakens getting an exhilirating 10/10 simply due to the thrill of the reboot and a successful takeover. This movie out does Force awakens with expanding the universe nicely and striking out in different original ways. The plot was more solid/less hokey regarding the first order than in Force Awakens with a bit more depth to its tone overall. The excitement of seeing something novel is still there with this film, which was pretty much completely absent from 1,2, and 3.
Yes it's definitely a must see in 3d!

Well you are still off your rocker about The Force Awakens which we determined last time. Absolutely the worst in the series, and miles away from your 10 score. But that's okay, the world needs different opinions. We've had this discussion before, and I believe we agreed to disagree. I will talk about this new one more once people have seen it and we can discuss details. But it's most certainly better in nearly every single way than The Force Awakens (which was a total disaster).

Female Jedi, geez pc gone crazy.... But but but.....she's smoking HOT!!!! That's all that matters, right? I didn't get that as much from TFA, but in this new one, she is truly a beautiful woman. Not many woman's faces can stand up to super close ups of their face like hers did in this movie. She's perfect. I certainly have a new affection for her. Take her away and the new movie goes down several notches for me. She was one of the best parts. Fin and Poe can go bye bye tomorrow. Actually, I think the tease near the end shouldn't have been a tease. It would have been a better movie if what they teased had actually happened. Kylo Ren can go instantly tomorrow if you ask me. He completely lacks charisma. People are always bitching about Hayden Christensen and his lousy acting. Well Adam Driver isn't much better. I say about the same by a different name. Kylo Ren is by far and away the least bad a$$ of all the Star Wars bad guys. He's a cry baby wuss bag.

I mean the entire premise of this new movie is about as lame and full of holes as it gets. I'm not a writer but I could have come up with many better ideas for sure. Although I am a creative sort of person by nature. It's the mega million dollars I don't have.

His Jedi conflict makes him seem like he is fighting coming out of the closet. Since it's Disney I wouldn't be surprised if they threw that in. I don't think Rey is all that and a bag of chips, she looks okay. I just get tired of all the crying women trying to look and act like badasses. Hunger games, Tomb Raiders, etc its played out to me. Poe actually helps me get through these newer versions as he brings the testosterone. Actually that is really what's missing from these that was present in the first three. Fin is an ugly coward. In my "circles" we're like really how did the token black person go from the coolest person (Billy Dee) to a cowardly uncool gorilla looking no name dude? Just awful and hard to watch. Kill him off please.

Just think about it, the 4th doctor trys materialize the Tardus just as the Enterprise "JLP" came out of light speed which caused a tear in time and space. The result plopped the Doctor and the Enterprise directly in the middle of the First Order inflicting heavy casualties on the Rebellion. Imagine how that battle turned in favor of the rebels? "General this is Captn JLP, we received your distress signal we've set our Photon cannons to stun" lol

adaboy Finn is not cowardly! Do you remember the bit about him facing off against Kylo? Now I agree about Kylo in the first movie. He wasn't bad, but yes, very angsty. In the second one, his manipulation really came out well. Though I'm still not sure why he's such an angsty jerk. Being fearful and being brave are definitely parts of the same coin. See that's one thing I liked about the new Star Wars, especially the Force awakens. There was genuine fear whenever the empire showed up. Whenever Finn or Rey were in combat, they looked like they were schiiting bricks! Just like normal people would in those situations. They stumbled around, they fumbled during their fight scenes. Made the whole thing more intense. Also, yes, he is unfortunately almost the sole black character. But a large part of the movie is about him versus people like Billy Dee (shining) in more bit parts. Thoough Rey isn't bad looking by any means, I don't think she's really there for eye candy. They seem to have been careful not to objectify her in this series. I thought a female jedi was a fantastic idea. I mean we've seen a billion white jedis already. If they made the jedi an alien that would have been even cooler! I was a big fan of Aayla Secura in the clone wars comics. Now think about it....this Star Wars trilogy is guaranteed to go and make huge amounts of money. However, the main characters in it so far have been a woman and a black man. Even the more minor characters have been asians. What this is showing is that you can definitely put non-white races and women in a really big main stream movie as the main stories and still be super successful. The Bechel Test is that a movie should have 1. At least two female characters in it. 2. Talking about something other than a man. And that's it. It doesn't even limit it to "can't be about clothes or shoes." It doesn't say the conversation has to even be interesting. For instance if one woman says to another, "I had a nice cup of tea today" and the other says "So did I", it passes the test. Or One says "Oh no, look at the volcano!" And the other one says "Girl, where did you get your shoes from?" Done. So it's not a feminist test as it's not really about the quality about what they say. It's a visibility test that should be easily passed. But guess what movies fail this rather easy test. Well sadly most of them, but interestingly: Avengers Lord of the Rings Trilogy (I think) The Hobbit Avatar Star Wars 4,5, and 6. Some spiderman movies Most of the Harry Potter films Stranger things season 1 Sounds stupid? Well if we had a male version of the Bechdel test, most movies would pass likely every ten minutes. The Force Awakens barely squeeked out a (human to female alien interaction) pass. But the Last Jedi did quite a bit better. So yeah, we need more movies with women in it! Uh, hopefully talking to one another too! Lol
