adaboy Finn is not cowardly! Do you remember the bit about him facing off against Kylo? He has moments of bravery, but otherwise he's nothing special. Whether it's the actor, directing or script, he totally lacks charisma. He's a waste of film time. Wow. As like last time, you and I saw two different movies. Kylo Ren is by far and away the lamest of all Star Wars bad guys. He's not scary. He's not intimidating. He's not anything special. And this movie didn't help change that one bit. I think he was poorly cast. If tall dark and whiny was the look they wanted, Gene Simmons' son Nick Simmons would have been much better and he's like 6'-8" tall too. Again, you are watching these new movies from some far off place I've never been. Such praise for The Force Awakens. Even my die hard life long Star Wars friend who initially got caught up in all the excitement has gone back and watched the movie and now mostly agrees with me, that it's just not very good. How about Samuel Jackson??? The first movie maybe, but this movie she is so obviously eye candy. All the close ups and creative shots of her......I didn't really find her hot after the first movie, but after this one....she even surpasses Natalie Portman for me and that's saying something. Her face is just perfection. Can you say Yoda? You do know he's an alien right? And again I guess you watched the first three movies and then completely forget them. The first movies are loaded with alien Jedi's (albeit second or third level characters). You act like them casting a woman in a lead role is something just crazy new and amazing. You are giving them way too much credit. This isn't 1960's Star Trek. Wow, this entire post here is out of left field. And wow, I just so don't care about that test. It has NOTHING to do with the quality of a movie. If you want a great movie focused around women watch The Help like we did this weekend. Or if you want some science, go rent Hidden Figures. Before I close, I just wanted to make it very clear that this is all friendly discussion. I'm not mad at you or overly excited or any of that. I only typed things the way I did to convey my honest feelings as if I were saying them to you in person while drinking beers at a bar. I actually think it's fun we can debate something like this from 2 completely different sides of the fence. Much more fun than discussing politics that's for sure. So all good at my end. Cheers.

Even better if he emerged as an evil jedi! As I mentioned the Bechdel test has nothing to do with quality. You could have a terrible movie and still pass the bechdel test. For instance I enjoyed gravity which was almost all about Sandra Bullock failing to grab on to things. But it failed the Bechdel test. (However her involvement wase mostly not entirely about a man .) Still a great movie. But at the very least it has to do with visibility - are there at least two women talking to each other and is the conversation not about a man? I want to see more women in movies is what I'm saying - hopefully saying something interesting! I mean that's a pretty low bar. I mean - do you want to see movies where if any women talk to each other it's always about some dude? Because that's the majority of movies out there. Let's change it up!

Funny thing is my die hard life long Star Wars friend is seriously disappointed with this new movie. When he saw The Force Awakens he originally got all mad at me for trashing it and pulling it apart. But now he says he basically agrees with me, that it sucked, and he was just caught up in all the excitement.
But now with The Last Jedi, he is already just trashing it all to pieces. He's bashing on almost every aspect of it, way worse than I even did with TFA. He basically thinks TLJ sucks. He hasn't come out and said it yet, but I think he feels it's the worst ever by a long shot, even worse than TFA. He's talking right past the third installment of this trilogy (because he doens't think any of the characters are worth a damned so he's given up on it) and looking forward to the next trilogy which is supposed to be about the outer rim folks brought up in this latest flick. He's hoping for all new characters that you can actually give a crap about. And he's worried about the next offshoot, SOLO, because he HATES what they did to Luke in this movie, totally disrespecting anything Luke was ever about and making him a selfish useless old hermit.

Taking the whole family to see TLJ on Sunday. My wife is as critical as they come on movies. Plus Star Trek is her favorite so she'll be a good barometer, as she only really likes Star Wars.
I'll let you all know what she thinks although the crappy main plot device may completely alienate her.

I really didn't liked it. Too much "Disneyfied"... Although my 12 year old daughter liked the cute animals....

I enjoyed it, as did my wife and 15 year old Marvel loving son. No lust in the movie to speak of, a fair bit of love though.

Ahem! What about these?! Off set in that movie by this. The only offset in TLJ is that big fat multi-titted thing Luke milks. But my arguments on why this movie isn't great don't have any issues with that sort of stuff (Star Wars has always had those types of things and always should - people who say otherwise have just forgotten). It's all about the "super stupid" main plot, the poorly written story lines within that plot, the lack of lovable charismatic interesting characters that make you actually have feelings for them, and the way they horribly portrayed characters that we do already know and love. It is a very well crafted, visually amazing, entertaining movie. But if you actually think about what actually takes place, it's got more holes than a sponge and it sucks just as much. Star Wars is such a huge overwhelming entity in society, it needs to be more than just eye candy for the lemming masses. That's all TLJ is.

Saw it with my wife yesterday, great escapist movie in the Star Wars tradition. Flew through the movie, felt like an hour rather than 2 and a half, so much action, non stop, but well paced. Really need to see it again, to take in all the subtleties that I'm sure I missed the first time through. The musc score was sensational, composition and performance, one of the best of the Star Wars, if not the best.
If you're thinking of not watching The Last Jedi because some people expect far too much, you really should ignore them, get along, it's well worth it.
Happy New Year to All Gary

some people expect far too much, Asking for a main plot that is more than "follow them until they run out of gas" is asking too much? I'm not asking for genius, but something more than an 8th grader could dream up would be nice. TLJ is very much slam bam wiz bang over substance. It's awesome slam bam wiz bang for sure. But it most certainly lacks substance and characters worthy of empathy or caring for.
