I don't see why not. Dirac Live does not run inside the XMC-1, not even inside your laptop. It runs in Dirac servers and the results (filters) are transmitted to the XMC-1 over ethernet from your computer which serve only as an input device. Most likely it's a matter of firmware update on the XMC-1 to make it compatible with the new Dirac Live version.

Most likely it's a matter of firmware update on the XMC-1 to make it compatible with the new Dirac Live version. Dirac software runs on the host computer and can enable or disable certain features as evidenced by Dirac LE and Dirac Full. So we would need new software to take any advantages if there are any to be had. The Dirac servers only calculate the resulting filters from the data sent by the local program.

That's what I said in my previous post, only with different words. The computer serve as an INPUT device. There are no calculations done in the host computer. All calculations are done in Dirac servers then transmitted to the XMC-1. If I recall, Mathias Johansson mentioned during his interview with Sound & Vision back in May that the new Dirac Live version was coming by the end of the year and new hardware wasn't need it to run in current equipments.

Agreed, but new software will be required on the host computer to take advantages of any new features that might be present. Whether or not we'll get that software remains to be seen. There could be an upgrade fee associated with it.

Dirac is a moving target

Well, for better or worse, isn't that the case for many of the technologies around all of this? I guess that's the nature of the beast.

Wonder why nothing new about Dirac Unison?

Wonder why nothing new about Dirac Unison? As with the hdmi thread, the silence is deafening coming from Emotiva!

Wonder why nothing new about Dirac Unison? As with the hdmi thread, the silence is deafening coming from Emotiva! I know they've been working with Dirac recently and being at their mercy like all other manufacturers must be frustrating. I'd venture a guess that they'll update us as appropriate. They've certainly been accused of over-promising and under-delivering in that department. Hard for me to be too critical knowing this. That being said, I'm looking forward to getting my RMC-1. Scott

Where the previous version of the Dirac Live algorithm individually measured the phase of each stereo speaker, this new version also analyzes speakers in pairs. By doing so, the algorithm ensures that the pair’s phase responses are matched to each other. The upgrade will further enhance Dirac Live’s ability to improve staging and imaging – already key strengths of the platform – and will deliver immediate and obvious improvements to all users.
In Q3 2018, Dirac Research will build on this CES 2018 momentum by introducing an entirely new product development model for this second-generation Dirac Live platform. Going forward, Dirac will be committed to introducing, on a yearly basis, one new Dirac Live “module” that offers unique functionality and allows users to customize their Dirac Live platform based on specific usage requirements and market application – be it home theater, stereo, professional studio, and/ or automotive.
“We will soon offer our Dirac Live customers both cross-market and market-specific modules, which can be bolted on to their existing Dirac Live platform, to allow for a more customized and personalized room correction experience,” concluded Thorin. “As a result, Dirac Live will become a highly-dynamic, always-evolving, market-customized room correction platform, forever equipped with the most advanced audio optimization technologies.”

I can only hope for a free upgrade. But to say "We will soon offer our Dirac Live customers..." does not necessarily mean free. That sounds too good to be true but I hope it is.

Anyone know anything new on this, is the XMC1 supposed to get this beta version? It's available now on NAD, Arcam, Lexicon, and Audio control.

I've been holding off on buying the current DIRAC version for my XMC-1, so I'm obviously interested in whether or not it can accommodate the new version. A yes, no or maybe from Lonnie or KeithL or even Dan Laufman would be a nice thing to do for us loyal and very patient XMC-1 owners. Cheers Gary

Keith already said not to expect anything new for the XMC-1. The chance of getting an upgrade is not 0, but pretty close.

I am a little disappointed that we we can’t have the newest dirac software on something as high end as the xmc-1. I wonder what the issue is exactly? Not that I have any issues with dirac now, but it would be nice to have the most up to date version.
