I am thinking about a couple of xpa-1 s..... So maybe smart to combine with xsp-1, but does it have a built in dac? There is also talk about a new dc-1...... Maybe wait for that one?

The XSP-1 is a preamp only - no DAC. I have these and the DC-1. The DC-1 is a very good DAC and it has balanced outputs, which is not on every Dac out there.

Emotiva XSP-1 plus the Emotiva DC-1 is great! Add a set of Emotiva Monoblocks and you have a superior system to 90% of almost any two channel system you can own!
Add Speakers/flavor to your liking!
Edit; If your in no rush wait for the DC-2, I personally wouldn’t nor did I. From what Ive read the DC-2 doesn’t make much difference in SQ. Depending on price and budget you may want to wait for the DC-2 to be offered for sale and then pick up a discounted DC-1. Just food for thought.
If you have the coin now, why wait to enjoy the music? 😲😋

I am probably going to pull the trigger on two xpa-1s because there is company selling in Norway now think the price is quite close to emotiva us.... But have warranty in Norway when I buy hier would be nice with full emotiva rig.... But don't want two boxes.... So think I will start with my rotel rc 1590 to start with, and hook up with the xpa1s the xmc-1 and xpr-5 combo in the movieroom will stay there for along time! It is the living room that needs upgrade

Having an xpa1 and trying the xsp in the state and without. In my setup the dc1 was more resolving and clear direct via xlr without the xsp1 in the chain. With every other (worse) amp I’ve tried like my upa 2 the xsp was an improvement.

And, relative to the Rotel - likely provide a lot better sound. That said, the XMC-1/XPR-5 would be a great movie combo for that room! Mark
