Unless you feel a need to decode the latest lossless soundtracks on the new Blu-Rays, I wouldn't bother. You'd be hard pressed to find a better sounding unit under $3000.
My XMC-1 sounds different, but not really better. The XMC-1 brings all of the instruments in the room with you. But the 7030 evaporates the wall in front of you and recreates the original venue.

I had a 7030 for a while. I really liked the sound quality in multi-channel and 2 channel. It's about on par with the Yamaha processor I have now. Both are very good performers with 2 channel. I don't think I'll be looking for anything soon - I'm not interested in Atmos or 4k. When my current 55" 1080p decides to die I'll probably get a 4k display unit. And the Yamaha passes 4k & 3D anyway so I might have it for a very long time. It's too bad I didn't recognize how good the 7030 is when I owned it or I might still have it.
