Just to let you jRiver fans that they have a new version of their program that works well with the Raspberry pi 3. I have always been interested in using the Raspberry as a music server, but have been disappointed in the lack of software that would run on the Raspberry platform. I have my equipment in my family room system in a closed custom built cabinet and my wife likes to keep the wood and glass doors closed. I had been using one of my old laptops with jRiver version 23 running on it in the cabinet, but it was a pain to turn the system on and it would heat up the cabinet quickly with the doors closed. Now with the jRiver software I can add a portable USB hard drive and get all my 25,000 music FLAC files on it and get rid of the lap top and the heat problem that I had, I also bought an on off power switch and a wireless remote. The remote is a combination keyboard and mouse in a hand held four inch long case. You can get both on Amazon. The on/off switch runs $7 and the mini keyboard runs $11. The new software works well with the jRiver remote app on my iPad. The SQ quality is excellent and sounds great with my PT-100 and my vintage Adcom amp.
The jRiver software is called ID and runs $40 dollars for a micro SD card that has the program and Raspberry operating system on it. The program is a work in progress and all the features of the Media Center are not available yet, but the important parts are working well and are very stable. There are no instructions when you get the card. You need to look on the jRiver Wiki. After a few false starts I figured out how to configure the USB output to the Emotiva PT-100 and get the Raspberry to join my wireless network. The Bluetooth works well with the wireless mouse and key board. If you don't currently own a Raspberry Pi you can buy one from jRiver with the case and power supply and the micro SD card with the program on it for $99 plus $10 shipping priority mail. They also are selling some higher priced versions of the ID Raspberry systems with bigger cases and SSD drives for a somewhat reasonable cost. Thought some of you might be interested in this. Matthew
