Since the new video board is as close as it is i dont think it makes sense for Emo to make anymore XMC's with the old board only to have to upgrade it at a later date. They may also have run out of the older boards since most companies use just in time parts ordering.

Something like "UPDATED VERSION WITH V3 HDMI BOARD NOW IN BETA TESTING" would alleviate a lot of angst and confusion. Don't ya think?

Here's the problem for Emotiva, there are Distributors and Retailers to be considered now. So just because Emotiva isn't making XMC-1 V2's anymore doesn't mean that their network doesn't have stock of V1's. So if they publicly said on their web site that an "UPDATED VERSION WITH V3 HDMI BOARD NOW IN BETA TESTING" their network scattered around the world would be stuck with stock. If they are certified to do the updates then that would be additional cost for the Distributors. If they aren't certified to do updates then it's not cheap to freight back units to Emotiva from the far flung parts of the world. Yes, I know it's in a podcast and on here, but there's a lot of Emotiva customers and potential customers who don't know about podcasts and don't visit forums, they just rely on the official web site.
Think about it, if someone somewhere in the world wants an XMC-1 they can check out the Emotiva web site, not get put off by words like "discontinued" or read that they about to be superseded, think they are lucky to have found one at their local retailer and buy it.
Because of their current model Emotiva have to be very careful about what they put on their web site. Which wasn't the case when they were a direct sales only company.
Cheers Gary

Cheers Gary The suggestion in my original post still works in your scenario. Simply leave the old product page intact and back channel the info to anyone trying to order from the website that the product is currently being updated with the new V3 HDMI board, so there will be a slight delay in shipping. If I were committed to buying one, I'd certainly be willing to wait a few weeks to receive one with the update.
As it is, Emo is shooting itself in its corporate foot. Suppose I'm a US buyer who has been shopping pre/pros, and I've finally settled on an XMC-1. (As far as I know, Emo is still only Internet Direct here in the States.) I browse to the product page, and what do I see? "SOLD OUT" I'm not likely to play Inspector Clouseau by digging through forum threads, presuming I'm aware of the forum at all. I'm much more likely to simply opt for Product B. Lost sale. Lost customer.

You would have never survived the initial release of the XMC-1, talk about no information LOL. This is how its done at Emo and honestly if you dont like it there is other products that may be better suited for you. Relax, have a beer smoke a joint go for a walk nothing happens fast here .

Thats the answer to the question, no more,,,,,no less,,,,, 😋 Just a few comments regarding AV processors built by anyone (not just EMO.) What a daunting task to come up with a component that can be all things to everyone and remain current. I’ve always felt the XMC was the best approach with these boards that can be swapped out. Still what a problem and Atmos timing was also impeccably BAD.... Bill

For those that like to follow the next shinny object (and i’m guilty of this myself) there are the big OEMs to choose from. Their six month product cycles provides those with audio/video features deficits disorder or AVFDD quick fix.

Their six month product cycles provides those with audio/video features deficits disorder or AVFDD quick fix. at the young age of 64, I am no longer enticed by the next shiny new object. patience has born fruit in my life and I am more than happy to wait for the RMC-1 or the XMC-1 gen 3 when it eventually comes out. I am even listening/watching all music/movies using my TA -100 as a preamp since I sold off my XMC-1 a short while ago. so... not being tempted to buy from the big OEMs, I know my patience will be rewarded. waiting and watching the emotiva progress and changes has never been boring. tchaik......

Bill i disagree with the timing of ATMOS. it was asked of emotiva a LONG time ago...but Dan et al. deemed it a fad and not gonna happen. then after a long period of people asking for it...the light bulb went on that they would lose a ton of sales if they didnt get with the times. then bam every processor they are making suddenly has intend to have atmos. if they didnt drag their feet and come to terms with what was current they wouldn't be so behind the curve

Thats great then do that not my problem, i just dont understand why you have to keep comeing here and pissing on our parade. Dont like it leave ,quite simple really. Alternatively you can design your own pre pro and market it, pour your heart and soul into it and then we can *bleep* at you.

How old are the current Anthem offerings? Are they the same from 5-6 years ago? If you don't innovate you become obsolete.

That being said, and thanks to the modular design, that feature will be available, if you are so inclined to have it. When I spoke about the bad timing, I was referring to between 2013 and 2014. I took delivery in Oct. 2014 on the XMC, and took it without Dirac, and got the kit with the mic. later on (very cool). Atmos, being introduced before the impending release of the XMC was what I was talking about. For a guy like me who doesn't want that, it was just something standing in the way. There will never be an ATMOS board in my unit........for ultra HD........yes! "Behind the curve" as you say, would hardly be how I would characterize any of this. Bill

hardly character as behind the curve? you have to be kidding right?
by the time the xmc (which is supposed to be the last processor you need for 15 years) finally gets the ability to decode the latest codecs Atmos will have been out in the home for close to 3.5 years...I would say that is WAY behind the curve...and very late to the party...

You keep missing the point. Dolby Atmos is a niche market item that is used by almost NO ONE when compared to mainstream home theater installations. The idea that a processor is behind the curve because it’s not object based audio equipped is absolutely ludicrous. Plenty of those are out in the field, if you want one. Bill
