Anyone here own any of the Yamaha Aventage recievers? I am looking for a good multi channel receiver for the wife in the living room. I have the man cave filled with Emotiva. But really only need a descent receiver with Blutooth and the Yamahas seam like they fit the bill ? I will use an old set of Paradigm model 11s and some old PSIs as surrounds. I like all the features, but wondering if anyone here owns one and your thoughts on them. I was looking at the model below but can splurge for up to maybe the $650.00 range. I would like to go with Emotiva here, but they just dont offer a receiver with this amount of features. usa.yamaha.com/products/audio_visual/av_receivers_amps/rx-v583_u/index.html

I refer the sound of the Burr Brown DAC's in the "lower" levels Yamaha AVR's rather than the Sabre DAC's in the "higher" levels.
Try a search on "Sabre halo" if you want to know why.
Cheers Gary

I have the non-amped version of Nick's 3020 - the CX-A5000. I also have a Yamaha RX-V773 in the bedroom for two channel - it's the same unit as the RX-A830 Aventage receiver. I've had no problems with either of them. I'd buy Yamaha again over just about everything else out available. Second choice would be a Denon or Marantz, both are under the same company now - D&M Holdings.
For up to $650 I'd look at refurbished units from accessories4less.com. They are an authorized reseller for a lot of brands, including Yamaha, Marantz, Denon, Onkyo/Integra & Pioneer. Great prices and decent customer service. I've bought from them 10-12 times now - some for friends and family and some for myself. The V773 was bought from them 3-4 years ago. It looked new when I got it - still does.

Can’t go wrong (for your purposes) with a receiver from Yamaha. Before buying an XMC, I looked at Yamaha’s top of the line separates.....too bloated with features for my needs.

You mentioned the Aventage line, but linked to the RX-V line. Yamaha makes solid stuff, but I would stick with the Aventage if you can.

I have already recieved and got everything connected last night. And considering I did not get the Aventege I am suprised how really good it sounds. The wife seams to like it so it allows me more time in the man cave with the real stuff ! Emotiva ! She loves the Music Cast App as well.

It was a great device. Used mine mostly as a prepro. Replaced with Anthem MRX 720. The Yamaha series models (10, 20, 30, 40, etc), are usually only very minor differences. For Discounted Yamaha AVRs check this site. I have purchased from them before. They sell mostly refurbs, but extended warranties are available. www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/category/avreceiver/home-audio/receivers-amps/home-theater-receivers/5.html

I have a TSR-7810 I picked up at Costco and while it has its quirks does sound decent. I would go for it.

I have a Yamaha RX 3030 and thinking about getting the XPA-5 amp but not sure if the Yamaha has enough power on the preout anyone know? The reason I ask is the Yamaha preout puts out 1 volt and the XPA-5 requires 1.5 volts for maximum watts.

That’s good to hear since the 3020 Is virtually the same as the 3030. I find the pre outs a little confusing on the Yamaha since they are labeled front, surround, surr back, rear, and center. Since I plan on amplifying just the fronts and center and will biamp the front left & right since they are power hungry Martin Logans does it matter which ones I use? For example can I use the preout front & surround to go to front left speaker and surr back & rear to go to front right speaker?

I have allof my manuals in pdf form on my iPad, make my world so much easier.

The manual is where I found it confusing because of what the pre outs are labeled. Biamp from receiver to speakers is easy and that’s how I have it currently setup but what’s confusing is the preout labels on the receiver when using an amp. What goes where is my confusion because I don’t want to use back or surrounds but the receiver has it labeled that way.

The manual is some 130 pages long and often, to me at least, seems to be written in a foreign language. Now I was coming from a 70s era Yamaha receiver and 2.1 system so I had a lot to learn but I am enjoying the experience that it provides. My wife & I now enjoy music and movies much more than in the past. I did a lot of research before committing to the 660 but found nothing for the price that had as many features. We'll soon be moving to a new house and I'll have a chance to update my audio system but plan on keeping the 660.

For CHEAP av-receivers, Yamaha can’t be beat. Above entry level, the market becomes MUCH more competitive.
My opinions above are based on sound quality for the $$ - nothing else. I’m currently running an Arcam that I bought for $260 on CL. Works fine & sounds pretty good. More features than I’ll ever use though.
So, yeah, I like Yamaha just fine. Take my opinion for whatever you think it’s worth…
