New to forum, old to world (73). Moving to new house and have opportunity to upgrade audio system. Note - I have significant high-f hearing loss. New space is 16x30 but listening area is about half of that (16x15 but open back). Would like to keep my Yamaha Aventage 660 (80x2). Movies 80%, soft rock 20%.
I'd like to build 5.1 or 5.2 around the center channel based on best dialogue. I don't know how to evaluate the Emotiva tweeter against other designs (dome, horn, etc) for dialogue but some have recommended the C1. I'm going to audition horn vs dome soon at Crutchfield but don't want to overlook the Emotiva if that is a good option based upon my criteria.
Comments on tweeters and may as well throw it open for 2-way vs 3-way and C1 vs C2 ?

I have not auditioned the Emotiva tweeters which are similar technologies of Goldenear or Martin Logan Folding Motion Tweeter. I heard the Logans and GE, and they both sound excellent, so I would imagen Emotiva would as well. Some people like the "airy" of the folden tweeter, but others do not. Some also say they have poor off-axis performance and so on. It is really a personal preference. Emotiva gives you a no-hassle return or their products so you could try it at home. So, why not give it a try? You also mentioned you are more into movies; why not get a center with added bass? I would check out Definitive Technology. I personally have their CS8080HD and it gives me a huge deep soundstage that anchors the whole sound field. Since they are powered, your Yamaha should not have a problem pushing them. Goldenear's Sandy Gross started DefTech as well.

Thanks. I have Def Tech Procinema in my current 5.1 (much smaller listening space) and am pretty satisfied with them so their new 9000 series is what I'll be auditioning at Crutchfield but want to look at other tweeter tech as well to see if I can detect a difference. Interestingly enuf, in a chat with Crutchfield rep he wasn't real high on the sub-woofer being a part of the cc and thought that the 9040 might be a better choice than the 9060 cc (I think that I have these models correct). Gotta listen to see what makes sense to me.

Ribbon and AMT tweeters are great for those of us with HF hearing losses. The tweeter in the Emotiva Airmotive line should be a fantastic choice.

Forget it if you have hf hearing loss. You don't need to fry the eardrums of those who can hear. Get a hearing aid.

Comments on tweeters and may as well throw it open for 2-way vs 3-way and C1 vs C2 ? The center channel speakers you refer to (and others here) would all do a fine job of it. I would not focus mainly on the tweeter necessarily, because of the hearing deficiency, just do the best placement of the center channel for the maximum benefit. Make ear level height for the tweeter (when seated) a priority, and avoid reflections caused by a shelf (too far back) or other obstructions. After that, you can just play with the center channel output as necessary, beyond the normal configuration. Bill

I’ve been participating on this forum for quite some time and that was clearly, THE MOST insensitive remark I’ve read to date.....for sure, an apology from that guy to the original poster is in order. I have a pair of T1 towers which I use for TV and movies. I cannot put a center channel in due to space limitations but I can tell you that the tweeter sounds really nice, clear and doesn't cause ear fatigue at all. I like the build quality of the speakers so between C1 and C2, whichever will fit in your space, go for it.

Comments on tweeters and may as well throw it open for 2-way vs 3-way and C1 vs C2 ? if you want a great center speaker and have the room get a VP160 from Axiom Audio and never miss out on dialogue again. This thing is the real deal and has 30 return window and your american dollar will get you a long way.

From now on will people with known hearing deficiencies either refrain from making speaker recommendations or publish a certified hearing test when they do so!

That’s a tough one indeed. My brother is a service advisor for Chrysler, so he’s not hands on, but his desk is right in the mechanical bay. He’s got hearing problems now even without the air gun in hand. Bill

Its a forum and not a professional reviewer making recommendations. This insensitivity is not cute or appreciated.

O.K. I apologize for recommending a hearing aid that would allow the OP to enjoy a normal sound system. So here is the system I would recommend - Klipsch horn speakers, Saber DAC (the cheaper the better), and a cheap AV Receiver using Class D technology. It is not recommended that the OP own a dog (its wee head will explode).
