Well I'm new here. 2ch nut from way back. I have been looking to replace an old friend for awhile now.Onkyo803A.It developed a haunting! It would change it's source and speakers at will. Onkyo said no way to fix it. Came across this company just looking and WOW. THINK I GOT NICE DEAL. But it says 80wpc to 4ohms. Onkyo was 65. 8ohms. Seems like it had more grapes than this A100. Any thoughts? I'm running BasxA100 , CV R30,s 12ga cabling, not all ways but Klipsh poweredsub kps12. Sometimes. And some OhmL ,s .

Hi congrats on your purchase! Have you tried it with some headphones. That's where it shines.

First? Power ratings should be compared at the same impedance. 80@4 vs 65@8? No real way to tell, but one thing for sure is that the minimum power difference you'd expect to make a 'big' difference would be about Double (2x) This is 3db. This is at the SAME impedance.
Other than that, the real difference in power is into a real speaker, not a resistor which is how power is generally measured. Amps differ substantially in their ability to drive 'real' speaker loads, even those with near-identical power ratings.
Off hand? I don't know enough about your speakers to judge how 'difficult' a load they are, but just a Guess, I'd say the Onkyo has slightly higher power. Than it all comes back to design and power supply of the amp.
Also? Proper tests when comparing amps should be done at the SAME level. Louder almost always sounds better.

The A 100 will most likely give yo a little bit of a fuller sound IMO. Congrats on the new amp, enjoy !!

www.stereophile.com/integratedamps/907onk/index.htmlIf you are a vintage guy, an amp as linked would do fine. An Onkyo A-9555 which is about a useful 3db more power than your current amp. Stereophile really liked it at the time. Original price was pretty good, but on todays used market? Bargain.

As the others say - you need to compare power ratings at the same impedance to truly compare potential. if I am reading correctly about your speakers, they are very efficient so should not take much power to run them. How loud do you like to listen? 75-85 dB or rock concert level? FYI, the A100 is a fine little amp for some uses. I use mine as a headphone amp, as do many. I occasionally use it to power my old B&W 202's and it will light them up just fine. Were I to use it day to day in my main listening room, I likely would have opted for a more powerful amp to leave me plenty of headroom for the occasional "rock out" times. Emotiva has many more powerful options, and they are also a bargain for what you get. Mark

Thankx for all the replys. I have tried the A 100 headphone out. Drives my AKG monitors well. My source is an iPod mini, or phone. I have no preamp. All in all it works great. Should I invest in a pre amp? I don't use tone controls .

But since you are just going out from your ipod or phone, there's no reason to spend money on a preamp in my opinion.

Is there a speaker delay on this A100? Ya Kno the second or so when u power up ? not that I know of. I have long been in the habit of turning the level down before I shut a system off. Then, I ease it up when I start to listen again. (A habit from way back in the 60's...) Mark

Should I invest in a pre amp? I don't use tone controls . With iPod Mini or a phone for a source, IMO, you be better served with going to a BETTER FILE before dropping more $$$ on more 'stuff'. I suspect, though you don't say, that you are at the MP3 level. Sample rate could be up to 320, but more likely much lower. If you have a way to burn a CD to your phone or mini, try a Lossless format. Either ALAC which is 'Apple Lossess Audio Codec' or FLAC which is 'FREE Lossless Audio Codec'. You will than have as perfect a copy of the disc that you can manage. Tidal is such a streaming service with better files available for a higher price. Preamp would be good if you had the Need for multiple source switching or a Turntable. Some preamps also have bass management if you opt for a sub. I use tone controls VERY late at night. I turn the bass UP a few clicks and the Treble as well. This 'simulates' what 4 decades ago was called the 'Loudness' button. Your hearing is much less sensitive to lower and higher frequencies when the level is very low. Turning them up makes it sound 'right' even though you are not disturbing anyone in the next room. If you are using bass-shy headphones? A little bass correction won't hurt their, either.

Are you sure it has a delay? There shouldn't be anything in the amp that can cause a delay....it doesn't have a DAC in it.
