I think this has been a thread before but I wasn't able to find it so here goes. If other members of the lounge could drop by and listen to your 2 channel or home theater system, what words might they use to describe how it sounds? "This isn't what you had LAST time I was here!" LOL

That's a great question. Haven't had anybody in to listen to the new rig. The old rig (Whispers with Carvers or Parasound A21) the few that listened to them were complimentary and gracious. My brother told me, "if I had that $heit in my house, I'd never leave the living room" Looking forward to another get together soon to get some input from others. Scott I'm still looking forward to a get together as well. I'd love to hear your new setup and check out your theater room. And drag over the dragons for you guys to hear. Mitch

Most don't notice but one time a musician neighbor dropped in and immediately went over and hugged my speakers. I don't really know what that meant.

My mates seem to enjoy my system, they say it's clear and live sounding, very loud.. My neighbours may indeed say something else, especially the magenta helmut that lives behind us, he he he ,I do love to upset his day, but loud and proud is most definitely the case....

I guess this is a good place to ask how many of you use a separate sub with your 2 channel system. I find with my ODM-28's the sub helps a good deal as the bass output is fairly low for the mains at lower levels. When I put more power to the speakers the bass response gets better, but at that point I am at the mid 90's on dbs. My song towers don't need a sub. I had a hard time convincing myself to buy them since they have dual 5.25" woofers that produce the lows but in the end I finally trusted all those amateur reviewers over on AVS. It would be difficult to integrate a sub into my two channel, but not impossible. I just don't hear any lack of low end bass. The song towers play low with good spl - better than the Emotiva ERTs with it's pair of sealed 8" woofers in each cabinet. I used twin 12" DIY sealed subs with them. The connections are easy - it's getting the sub - or subs tuned to sound right. I know there are many subs available with built in DSPs to integrate subs into 2 channel and multi channel.

My nephew had the best response in my opinion.
“You’re system has just ruined every song I’ve ever loved! How can I listen to them any other way now?”

You know I looked for the word sonics as it refers to 2channel listening up in a glossary describing sound and the word itself does not exist on that list. I was very surprised. I read words like clear to describe the sonics in people's description of the "sonics" in their system. "In sound and music production, sonic ARTIFACT, OR ARTIFACT, refers to sonic material that is accidental or unwanted, resulting from the editing of manipulation of a sound." Sonics by itself relates to sound waves. IMO based on MY readings the material you listen to is just as or MORE important perhaps than the system itself. Again we get back to the better the recording, or production the better your system will sound. Garbage in, garbage out.

Those “artifacts” are even more of a challenge in multichannel audio, but inherent in both, of course. I wouldn’t go so far as to say the source material trumps the system but yeah....nothing like top notch source material to bring it all home. Bill

I usually get something like "How much better could it be compared to my <Insert mid-fi/low-fi brand here>"? So I toss on a few select tracks with emphasis on vocals, and I usually get "wows" and even the occasional "Holy sh**".

I think that people who are INTO Stereo Audio would agree to variable degrees of "pretty darned good"
I do not have a dedicated "listening room", and since I have to contend with speakers closer to the corners, with soft furniture near the front of the speakers - that in light of this, it STILL gives realistic, BALANCED sound at both low and high decibel levels.
Like others have said - I SHOULD have added the sub YEARS ago. It would have slathered-in some solid Low-End "foundation" for my small but surprising Polk Monitor 5Jr's that were pretty good, but lacked a bit of Low-End "GRUNT"...
Do the ELACs live-up to the hype? I'm not sure - but they were definitely a step in the right direction, and if you have to contend with using the Living Room and "shooting over" the furniture; a set of good bookshelf-size speakers combined with a good Sub seems to be a good approach to the problem. (After all - I think that MOST people who have not "studied" Audio do not realize that their room accounts for about a third of their system.)
OTOH - My relatives would be amazed at how much I spent and wonder why, and furthermore wonder why I'm not just using an iPod like "all the NORMAL people".... Even though I'm relatively FRUGAL compared to many "Audiophiles".
It seems like many of the modern generation are content with the CONVENIENCE of Mono bluetooth speakers and lossy MP3's etc (Hey' it's "DIGITAL", so it HAS TO be GOOD, right?...) I think that the average device that "Joe six-pack" listens to his music on has become more convenient, but has gone WAY down-hill in terms of actual Sound Quality since the early 1980's
[Then again, maybe I'm just starting to turn into an "old codger"...]

Most of my friends would be intimidated by what I had, so they meekly say wow that is nice....blah...blah...blah... Because I was the most music and movie fan of our bunch, and mental about the whole thing, they would use my system as what they wished they had, if they could understand any of it. 🙃
