When I listen to Miles Davis' Kind Of Blue, there is very audible distortion with one of the horns on the right channel mostly, but it happens on left channel as well. Sounds like a particular horn (maybe trumpet) especially when it seems to play softly.
This is very easy to hear with any headphone or earphone; originally I thought my cheap Skull Candy earphones were bad, but my new AKG phones pick up this distortion even better.
Happens on track 1 within first minute, and in other areas through the album.
I've tried different headphones, playing through different sources, and it is always there... (On Tidal and Google Play)
I dont have a CD, so I thought it was limited to streaming.. But I did find a lot of online information about this issue.
No one seems to have an answer to the problem other than a bad Mike. Some think it is the reed buzzing, but I'm pretty certain it's not the reed.
Was driving me kinda crazy, but I since others have noticed, I feel very relieved, not because my gear is ok, but because I felt I was being too obsessive over the recording. Lol
If someone has a chance, spin a copy and, listen very closely...Might be just a particular recording?

dsonyay, I have the same problem...and not just on that one particular album although it is ever so slight. I was worried that it was one of my tweeters in my b&w803 DIAMONDS but playing different material made me come to the conclusion it was a recording issue. My cousin has the "kind of blue" on vinyl using Definitive Tech speakers and he said he has the same issue. So it cannot be a coincidence, and for sure his Definitives, my 803's as well as your klipsch's do not have the same speaker problem...THREE different pairs of speakers? Unlikely. Therefore I would not worried. I also stream TIDAL.

I need to get a Bluetooth adaptor to connect to my preamp so I can stream it to my home audio.. Or buy the CDs. I'm still trying to catch up a bit with music.. I've been away since the late 80s. Lol Thanks for the reply. Btw.. That album is soooo beautiful. The cuts- All Blues and Flamenco Sketches are just perfection. These musicians were blessed with an amazing skill Hearing the sticks tap the cymbals on All Blues .. It's like the drummer is right there in front of me. Throughout the album I hear I van hear the breathing as some of the horns play. I really love that. As I get older I listen to stuff like this more and more.

And right at the beginning of Flamenco Sketches.. what is the piece atached to a trumpet to make that distinctive sound? I've always loved that.

During "All Blues" at 7:35 there is a cool part that sounds like a missed note.. But maybe not, it's towards the end of a great solo.. Whether it is or not, it doesn't take away from the flow of the song at all, but I just wondered if he blew a note wrong, or it's just the style of playing

The device which gives some of Miles' playing a tinny sound is called a trumpet mute. There are different styles which produce different sounds, but I THINK that Miles was using one like this. I really enjoy his trumpet sound when he uses that too. Trey

I can barely hear that same sound on very veryfew occasions on my pressing of this LP. Only a couple of spots where it sounds like the reed came loose but then perfection! Love this LP. It waspastdue for a spin, thanks dsonyay

Sounds much better on vinyl my friend. I don’t think my full tube rig has anything to do with that horn as Im comparing between Tidal stream via Mac Mini and a Rega RP6 with the same pre amp and amps.

Maybe one day I can hear it on an old school setup like that. Would be a good experience no doubt.. And I hope everyone understands I'm not trying to diminish the recording, it was, just something I noticed .

Something like how awful the Sony recordings of the Beatles are so damb bad! Just unbelievable! Anybody else think so? Edit; to be specific Im referring to vinyl pressings! 🤮

Having an Android phone grab a Chromecast Audio and use Tidal on your phone and then cast to the Chromecast, you can use either a optical cable to your DAC or analog out from the Chromecast to your analog input of your preamp.
