Just ordered the Audioquest Nightowl Carbon. Will be listening to them end of next week.
Normally $700, on sale for $399.
I wonder why the sale. I understand the designer, Skylar Gray is no longer with the company.

Coming along nicely the 2 day break in is working a treat. I think maybe another 2 days should be good. Allot nicer than when they were new. Allot smoother and easier. Really makes my AKGs seem ruthless now. So far on instrumentals it is doing much better. Vocals coming up real soon.

Already in the modding mode. Sony 1000 ear cushions ordered. Stock cushions a bit too confining and chinzy for my big ears.

Got the HIFIMAN’s too Chad. Love them! I feel like they are made better too... JMO. I picked them up for $248 CAD and also was looking at the Massdrop HD6XX but decided to try the planars for something different, heck I still want the HD6XX but a buddy of mine has them so I can borrow them anytime I like. My only complaint of the HE400i is the cable, it's too stiff and a little on the short side even when sitting at my PC. Chad you got it from visions didn't you. I had the HifiMan too at one point. I found the highs kind of piercing. so I got rid of them. I got the massdrop HD6xx which ships in june so I can't wait. I had the Sennheiser momentum which was good. but the Sony h.ear seemingly was better. And the Kef was really smooth on the high end.

The headphone ear cushions really make the headphone sound different. Tried the the AKG 701 ear cushions mocked fit on the M560 and it killed them. Bass was dead highs were gad! The midrange was even odd, and not in a good way. Monoprice really wants you to go to the 1060. But I am doing this my way, not their way.

No issues with the highs for me and that is one thing I can pick out and don't like, the Schiit Fulla 2 is acting as the DAC and the NuForce HA-200 is the amp. Yes visions for $248 plus taxes haha Chad

Most profound Modification for the M560 Headphones. Sony 1000 ear cushions. Game changer for comfort. Changes the sound stage a bit. A bit wider in the sound stage. Bass is more clear too.

Just got mine Saturday. Love them with both my A-100 and my fiio f1 and amp. Looking into 3d printing some plastic rings that I can mount magnets in for better pad interchangeability. I know a lot of people are double sided taping them. I am also looking into a set of 1060 and the new monoprice 650. Before these I was running the $30.00 "Retros". Definitely a little fan boy in the making.

Congrats on your 560s. If I may make a suggestion. Look at the 1060 and 1060C and skip the 650. Those 1060s are the next real step up from the 560. And the 560 is darn good already. Many are calling the 560s the sweetheart of the reasonable Planar Headphones. Built real nice, like a tank actually, and built better than the 1060s too. Crazy that but true. I am hearing the next gen 1000 series will be massively upgraded build wise so I am in no hurry, plus, if they do come in, you can bet the current gen 1060 will be nicely discounted. A good thing all around. So time is on your side david96.

Upon further listening and really running in the 560s, my Audio GD on low fixed out to the Emotiva A100 Bas-X is giving me the best music I have heard yet from these. Resistor bypass is back in the A-100(use with caution). The dynamics and tonal balance are spot on. No murderballs treble like my AKG 701s can do from time to time. I think in retrospect the Sony 700 ear cushions maybe the way to go, but the 1000s from Sony spoil me any way. Guitar, piano, vocals. Wow, very much in the game now. I had been looking at the 1060s but elected to wait to see what Monoprice does next year. That is my guess when the next gen 1000s come out. If the build is like the 560. I am all in. Or if they discount the current 1060/C, I could get those, but the 560 build wise say wait instead. You never know. I know of the new Planars Monoprice introduced. Not interested. My sites are on the 1060s or the whatever 1000 or 2000 for that matter Monoprice comes up with. So the 560s while especially on sale now are stupid good for the short money. Just mod those uncomfy ear cushions and enjoy.

Good call on just waiting to save up for the 1060's or possibly what will come next. I don't know if I dare with the jumpers. I run a turntable into my A-100. I probably would not unless you know for sure low frequency rumble will not creep in. Saps lots of power rumble. You could experiment. Noise floor might be a problem too. Or not. Just keep levels low and go easy. I only did it as my source output is a bit low and I can go with the bypass. Noise floor is higher but the extra punch and dynamics I get are worth it. It might for you, or not. I would run in your 560s more before doing that test anyway. If your enjoying things as they are, no worries. Also you can do the jumper bypass anytime you want.
P.s. I only mention rumble as I am uncertain if a subsonic filter is being employed.
