one more question guys. since I do not have my 4k player yet, but I do have the tv and I will eventually have the RMC/XMC 4k sometime this year, do you think I should jump on a OPPO 203 while they are still available? or just wait and get a less expensive Sony or Samsung down the road........

This is very much a personal choice but that said the Oppo 203 is an extremely nice Blu-ray player inside and out solid quality. It's definitely worth the extra money if you aren't trying to skimp penny's. Oppo is very well made and they will probably soon all be gone.

Since the new Oppo offers nothing more then the Samsung, not even the apps it once did, I found no reason to dump my money into an expensive disc player just to get 4K. Yes, the Oppo is made of metal and well constructed but its not like we drag these things down the street! Also, with the Samsung I can stream plenty of apps and YouTube as well. Not sure you can do that with the new disc spinner. Just my two cents and your dollars! |

You gave up far to easily Nick, harden up  I back to backed an Oppo 203 (my cousin's) for a week with a Sony X800 and I couldn't see or hear any difference. I played CD's, SACD's, Blu rays, DVD's and 4K BD's, nothing, all looked and sounded the same to me. Because it was 1/4 the price I won't feel obliged to keep it one day longer when something newer, better, faster, flasher comes along. It's disposable like all digital devices, the fact is it will go out of date in a very short time. If I had bought a 203 I would have kept it longer than I should, just because of the dollars I'd invested in it. The net result being tolerating inferior performance when it should have been replaced. The above logic is what I believe is the reason for Oppo getting out of the business. Their performance advantage is now at such a level that less and less people are willing to pay the sort of premiums that Oppo needs to survive. If you want proof as to why you shouldn't buy a 203, there it is, Oppo themselves gave it to you. Cheers Gary |

These are two big selling points for me. First I really really like my components to have real metal, thick aluminum front panels are a big plus for me and the Oppo's case is a very nice one, for me this is a huge plus. The lack of apps and and stuff is also a plus for me as my HTPC is my source for these and I prefer not having them on my Blu-ray player. The excellent high quality case and solid construction, rock solid excellent performance and features that most other players don't have like trigger control and and rear IR input which I do use with my high end URC remote control system where I can control anything in my system without even being in the room never needing to ever point my remote. These all make the Oppo my favorite Blu-ray player |

Believe or not if you are buying the 203, you bought it for the build mostly. No offense to Sony and Samsung. The 203 has more of the good stuff inside. How much that translates to sight and sound are many factors. Certainly day to day any will do the job. The Oppo 203 does it with a solidity no other player matches today. Yes it costs $549.00 plus shipping while they have them and they are running out, so if the 203 is it, time is short. There will be no more. Samsung and Sony, yes they will keep making them, but not the way Oppo does/did.
Money you will make back. Oppo being here many tomorrows on a buy, not so much. There will be gouging for sure to happen soon on Ebay. Just watch. These will be sought after long after they are gone. Sony and Samsung is always a new day. Will anyone miss those if they leave? Time will tell.

This is coming from a long time oppo owner tchaik ; check out the Panasonic UB820 OR the upmarket UB9000 . Both of these cover everything; hdr10;10+;HLG and Dolby vision with a coming firmware.Hdr10+ may be added to the 203 afaik.. The other thing to consider is long term firmware support for new discs ; this is something that is quite frequent with mastering standards for UHD in a state of flux[ some 1000nit some 4000] so wise to consider . Having owned Sony Blu-ray players as well as an Oppo 103 and now a 203, there really is no comparison between Sony and Oppo in terms of build quality, regular firmware updates, and customer support.
Yes they are priced higher, but I have no regrets.
The issue here is how long can we expect future support. Otherwise it’s a no brainer to me, Buy the Oppo.
