I've owned mono amps, UPA-1s - twice. I'll settle for a decent integrated amp, my Yamaha A-S1000 sounds as sweet as anything I've ever owned, and it puts out (a puny) 95w into 8 ohms. And there is NO cross talk. If you're worried about cross talk you should get a pair of mono preamps, otherwise you're back at square one, worried about cross talk! Cross talk is a mute point with a well designed amp. Ask Lonnie! He's mentioned this a few times. But if your mono amps sound good to you, thats all that counts. My Yamaha is music to my ears. Yep, exactly why I'm considering the swap to tidy things up as I expect performance will be the same in real-world terms. That's encouraging to hear that Lonnie is saying that. I'll have to dig up that discussion :-) Thanks

You may be right but you’ve opted for the multichannel amp bs Monoblocks for critical listening. Im just a firm believer in monos for critical stereo listening. 30 day return period, hive it a listen and then you decide. 👍 Cool, totally relate to your point of view, which is why I'm not diving straight into a multi-chan amp without a little discussion... But I also don't like to let non-real difference fog my decision making too much, otherwise I may eventually loose all rationale and end up purchasing $10K power cables!! - LOL :-D Good point re demoing it - although I'm in NZ!!... so would depend if our distributor offers the same deal. Certainly worth asking. Thanks How do you like those KEFs? I’ve been enjoying my set of LS50’s. So much great sound from a mighty might! (Little speaker)

How do you like those KEFs? I’ve been enjoying my set of LS50’s. So much great sound from a mighty might! (Little speaker) I really like them!...fantastic imaging with a huge sweet spot, acoustic instruments and vocals very convincing, massive impact and dynamics too. I think I'd have to spend an absurd amount more to get any real improvement - so yeah, I'm happy :-) Nice! The LS50's have piqued my interest too... Thinking about a pair of the active models for the living area and sticking a Roon endpoint behind it... viola! :-) Gotta say... if I were sh*ting money, the Legacey Audio, Valors looks freakin interesting :-D

Thanks everyone for their input so far. I have decided to keep the UPA-1's for fronts, they are great amps! In light of this, I'm leaning toward saving a few extra $$ and getting the A-500 for center+surround duties instead of A-5175, as I believe this will provide plenty of power with fronts being out of the equation. So, for now I'll shift my focus to the release of the XMC-1 ATMOS/DTS-X upgrade... cos there always has to be 'something'

In the original post, a reference is made to a bunch of 'specs'. I wouldn't worry, generally, about that. Channel seperation and such, when using monoblocks is strictly limited to the seperation from the SOURCE. Phono for example, might only be 25db to 30db...... www.vinylengine.com/turntable_forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=44346I'd expect CD and other digital sources to be basically Studio Limited. ANY competent stereo amp will be ok in this regard. As for the rest of it? Good luck hearing anything you could ascribe to a simply 'poor spec'. The one exception I'm thinking, MIGHT be when an amp is rated at 1% distortion. Even some very costly amps (think $10,000+) amps can have such a spec, BUT substantially lower distortion at more 'useable' power levels. This might actually be audible at very high levels with lower sensitivity speakers. But than? Is it the amp or speaker distorting? Speaker power ratings are among the really weird / meaningless specs in all of audio.

On just sound I can say I know the UPA-1. I love the way it sounds. Now the 5175 carries the Emotiva core values and the most likely the sound too. I think either would be very engaging. Your equipment and speakers and room specifics will play a major role here for sure.
