I've been having an issue with Lip Sync since FW5.8. Since I've been using a projector for the last couple years I haven't had any problem with lip sync. Lip sync was something that had to be chased when I had my plasma connected, so the lip sync needed to be delayed. The problem I've been having on some channels since FW5.8 is that the lip sync can't go below Zero so no matter what the video is always a tiny bit ahead of the audio, so I would need to delay the video. On most channels the sync is really, really close when set to Zero. But on some sports channels and especially some network channels which are more out of sync, it's a problem. Anyone else notice this? Actually I've noticed that too. I assumed it was that I had put a Shield into the mix, but perhaps it did correspond with the FW5.8 update. I did them both at the same time (dumb move).

I figure for most tv I watch on the TiVo I would need to delay the video about 20-40ms.
Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but I could'a thought that my old UMC did plus and minus lip sync.

I noticed with my Comcast cable box, not sure on anything else. And, since I have rarely had a chance to listen lately, I was not sure when it started.

Just wish the XMC-1 had it like the UMC-200 did. The audio delay is similar to what I used to experience with watching badly dubbed movies in the 1970's. However, the most enjoyable one was "What's Up, Tiger Lily?".

I do have the ATV4K upscaling to 4K which I assume slows down the video output, hence the need for lip synch delay. But even with native 4K (no upscaling) it still needs delay. The Sony BDP X800 to date hasn't needed any lip synch correction. I can't say as I have ever had video "faster" that audio, so I have never needed to use minus lip synch. Cheers Gary

Cheers Gary This sync issue started with the 5.8 firmware. I didn't notice it right off because I've been listening to music mostly. When I watch Formula One Racing there's not much in the way of on-screen speaking and very few commercials, but when I did see a sync problem with the race commentators I just thought it was the Sky Sports feed being a bit off, but no, it's most tv channels with some really noticeable delayed audio. Today I saw John Candy in Summer Rental hitting tables with his crutches and the sound was waaay late and I have the Lip Sync at Zero. I am hesitant to flash to an earlier firmware due to the "stereo bricking" issue and I don't recall if that showed up with 5.6 or 5.7 or if it wasn't noticed but possible with earlier versions. Just dunno.

So no need for me to update. Cheers Gary

I would also be happy to test beta code on my RMC. I can easily reproduce the audio renegotiation issue with the DirectTV DVR... Essentially it shows up in two conditions 1) when you FFWD through the commercials you many times do not get any audio until you use the 30 second rewind button 2) when watching live TV I see the RMC loose audio when the stream switches from 5.1 to 2 channel commercials and then back to 5.1. In this case the audio goes away and comes back after a delay. Discovery channel and History channel seem to do this a lot. I also have drop out issues with content from the shield but those seem to be farther apart. good info and thank you for the solid report. Lonnie I have been seeing this lately with my Tivo Bolt+ but the XMC-1 firmware has not changed. TiVo has pushed a new software update. I also had a weird case where there was no sound with an LPCM 2.0 source had sound when using Auto, Dolby or DTS matrixed surround modes but no sound from Reference Stereo or Direct mode. - Rich

Like a dummy I forgot that I needed to install the new firmware FIRST, and went ahead and did the board. Should I re-install the old board and do the firmware? OR is there a way to do it properly now?

Will there be another firmware for the XMC-1, based on the improvements from the last 1.5 firmware for the RMC-1? Also will the "flickering" of the OSD as described several times by me, ever be fixed?

I am having occasional loss of audio with the following:
- 2.0 is using DTS Neo Cinema - EE Power on - play a multi-channel source (normally ATV4K, but also from TiVo Bolt+) - play @ 2.0 LPCM source
When it occurs, switching to Reference Stereo restores the sound and then selecting DTS Neo Cinema works.

All my AppleTV 4K problems went away when I used the Apple-recommended Belkin HDMI cable.

My xmc-1 has been in a box since we moved in 2016. We are finally finishing the remodel. I plan to purchase the video board once it becomes available and have Emotiva upgrade the firmware and install a new video card. I have decided on the LG C9 and have not had a TV in a long time. Back to normal soon! I am assuming all my HDMI cables will have to be replaced for the 4K?

Don’t do it Reggie, just get an XMC-2 and be done with it!!!

If you want to save yourself a lot of headaches, buy Certified cables or if you have long runs, fiber hybrid cables. I use Monoprice thin certified cables for interconnects and Ruipro fiber to the LG 77C9. - Rich

If you want a thin cable shorter than the 6' recommended length (for thicker cable), then these come highly recommended by me...!!! I'm now using the 3' and 4' lengths from every source and they work splendidly...
