Will there also be another FW upgrade for the XMC-1?

Since there have been quite some issues reported with 5.14 and 5.15, will there be another update? Or is the XMC-1 now "done" for Emotiva?

Emotiva are actively still selling the XMC-1.
They also released a new Firmware update (5.15) in February this year (presumably for the HDMI board as there were not really any other significant issues that I am aware of).
The HDMI board is common to the RMC-1 and XMC-2 so I suspect that future HDMI related changes could be integrated into a further XMC-1 release

Just installed the V3 video board, took less than five minutes including f/w upgrade. Hardest part was installing the new port label.
Interestingly the USB stick came with 5.4 f/w which is 29 Nov 2018. Why would they ship it with an almost two year old firmware? Oops, forgot who I was talking about!
So far it’s working...

After checking Emo's home pages and their Firmware files for the XMC-1 it gets even more interesting as they have a WARNING posted 22 April 2019 as follows: NOTE that Emo ships a Firmware that may cause your XMC-1 to fail to reboot! ***************************************************************** emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/54996/important-notice-xmc-firmware-v5May 10, 2019 at 3:50pm by KeithL on May 10, 2019 at 3:50pm We have discovered an obscure but serious bug in some older XMC-1 firmware . THIS ONLY SPECIFICALLY APPLIES TO XMC-1 OWNERS WHO HAVE THE HDMI 2.0b BOARD... THIS ONLY SPECIFICALLY APPLIES TO USERS WHO ARE RUNNING FIRMWARE VERSIONS BETWEEN v5.2 and v5.7... This bug will only affect a small percentage of XMC-1 users (and only if you have your XMC-1 configured for 2.x channels). However, if you encounter it, it may cause your XMC-1 to fail to restart if it is rebooted. If this happens, your XMC-1 may require a trip to the factory to be re-flashed. We STRONGLY recommend that anyone who has an XMC-1 with Firmware between v5.2 and v5.7 on it IMMEDIATELY update to the current Firmware Version.

I remember this....it was never an issue for me because I have a 5.1 system. Not sure how many people only ran 2.x channels or if anyone actually had this issue. Also, people have most likely updated their firmware beyond the two mentioned. Didn't follow, so not sure if it was ever resolved.

For a company to ship a FIRMWARE (on a USB stick) update that your are instructed to install before installing the video board 15 MONTHs after they announced to NOT use and UPDATE IMMEDIATELY is beyond belief.
Regardless if you personally had no issues with the older firmware, I use two channel. I also (as many people do) trust the mfg to send the latest production firmware on the INCLUDED stick. Alternatively they could have instructed buyers to go to their site and download and install the latest production firmware.

The firmware we ship with the card is SPECIAL UPDATE FIRMWARE whose ONLY PURPOSE is to allow you to install the upgrade card.
YOU CANNOT DO THE UPGRADE BY USING CURRENT PRODUCTION FIRMWARE. (If you do so, depending on the version you try to use, the result may be a non-working processor, which will need to be shipped back to the factory.)
In order to perform the upgrade you must install firmware that goes with the new HDMI card... And you must do so while the original card, WHICH IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH, is still installed. Most recent and current firmware versions include a sort of safety interlock which will prevent you from doing so. Therefore, just for purposes of doing the update, we have provided a specific version which has been modified to bypass the safety interlock.
Since we plan to tell you to immediately update your firmware to the current version after doing the update anyway... (And, to be quite honest, we aren't selling all that many HDMI upgrade cards lately....)
We see no reason to modify versions of each new firmware update just for use when installing the HDMI update... Kieth, You MAY have PLANNED to tell purchasers to IMMEDIATELY update the firmware, but there is no such direction or warning anywhere in the Official XMC-1 Upgrade Instructions and with Emotiva’s record with firmware updates it is not something that is done without serious investigation prior to updating. Hi there. Thanks for creating this thread. Very useful. I have had my XMC-1 in storage and just took it out of storage a few weeks ago. I have had the upgrade board for 2 years and only getting around to upgrading it now! We have been renovating our house and just finished. The current firmware is 4.5.1. Before I start the upgrade is there anything that I need to look out for? Is it as simple as just following the instructions in the box and using the firmware on the memory stick? Apologies up front for all of the questions I just want to be VERY careful. Thanks in advance. For the record the filename for the firmware on the supplied memory stick is XMCupdate-2018_06_21_ForUseOnlyJustPriorToReplacingEH82WithHDSB82.

Hoping someone can help me.
- I'm running 5.15 with the latest HDMI board (purchased factory refurb built in 2019). - I have a Vizio 4K TV, plugged into HDMI output 1. - I have a cable box and blu ray player plugged into HMDI in 1 and 2.
Every time I turn the TV and XMC-1 on, it turns on to the last used input, usually input 1 which is the cable box. I get audio from the the cable box but no video. I have to switch the HMDI input to input 2 and then back for the TV to get a video feed.
Any ideas?

Then cold boot everything with the power cords unplugged for a minute. For the restart, just attach the cable box as the only source initially to check operation with the minimum amount of components.

Is there any USB boot option other than a factory repair if the firmware update to XMC-1 is botched? I've only had my unit a week and appear to have killed it. I have an EH82 board supposedly Gen. 2 4K video according to the seller and appears to match the appearance of the board shown on the refurbished units. Same chip layout but no heatsinks as shown on the solo board upgrade. Ser 23HF0000596. I struggled to get Dirac to detect the unit on my network. We could ping it but no Mac or 2 other PC could get Dirac to detect it. I hoped the firmware update might help and now it appears bricked at this point with the dreaded err: init HDSB82. I can get to the loopback menu with the power-on-button trick and nothing more. There are no menu's to update the firmware back to an old rev. I do not have the older HDMI 1.4 board to fall back to. The firmware update was going forward according to instructions and self-shutdown but would only power up with HDMI errors. I thought I was following the directions after all the cautionary statements about this update. If anyone has any tricks, I'd be most grateful. Thanks adam

Thanks adam Sound to me that you likely have the “Gen 2” HDMI 2.0 board, not the “Gen 3” HDMI 2.0b board. The Gen 3 board would definitely have the heat sinks attached to the three Panasonic controller chips. If you have installed the latest firmware for the XMC-1 (which does not support the two older HDM boards), then you will have to contact Emotiva to determine what your recovery options will be. Other users who have bricked their units required a return service repair.

I notice you are using a trigger repeater, but do you have your trigger cables in parallel (all the amps etc power up at once) or series (one amp powers up, then the next, then the next etc)? Mine is a combination of both, without a trigger repeater, in that the XMC-1 triggers the XPA-5. The XMC-1 also triggers the XSP-1 which then triggers the XPA-100 which then triggers an XPA-1L which then triggers the other XPA-1L. That way there is no surge on the XMC-1 trigger circuit, plus there is no huge demand on the power circuit from everything power up at once. Before the XMC-1 I had a UMC-200 configured the same way and excessive demand or a short circuit on the its trigger would cause cycling. I also found if I powered up everything at once using the same power conditioner the voltage drop at the UMC-200 would cause it to shut down. I now don't use a power conditioner and I have the gear split between 2 circuits. Cheers Gary Mostly in parallel though one of the rear subs is triggered from the other. Two of the subs are actually powered on by an X10 setup so the trigger drives the X10 transmitter, then a pair of receivers (appliance modules) power on the subs. I have dealt with power-on surges (inrush current) for ages and do not think that is an issue in this system. I have three 20-A circuits across the front wall; one powers two subs, one the two amplifiers, and the last the TV, Oppo, XMC-1, Comcast STB, a Sonos Connect, and a WiFi access point. I have the latter "low-level" stuff on a UPS to ride out any short power glitches (not infrequent around here, and we have a whole-house generator for longer ones). The two rear subs are on a 15-A circuit with a couple of lights and my notebook PC. As I said earlier, I think (will have to check tonight) I am using only two of the XMC-1's trigger outputs, and since they can be controlled separately, figured they had separate drivers. Either way the load on them is very small. If a trigger cable or connector went bad (strange but suppose) I'd be surprised it would cause the XMC-1 itself to misbehave like that but I am hoping to hear back from Emotiva on that (probably Tuesday). If there are only the two I may have an extra or two and can just replace them. You did remind that I built a power sequencer ages ago, long gone, but had thought to see if I could tinker with the repeater to stagger their outputs. Have to make sure they turn off immediately, however, so needs more than just a simple RC delay.
