The more I read in this thread the more happy I am that my Samsung panel and Sony BD player don't support Dolby Vision, seems like way more trouble than it's worth.
Cheers Gary

^^^ I've been reading quite a bit recently that DV is taxing the current technology to the max. This state of maxed-out-bits is on an evolving and improving course so things will be improving in the world of cabling, this year, next year, . . . .
The equipment may be capable of handling the load, but the transmission medium needs sorting. I've even read that cable companies can now get their cables DV certified so their cables can display a DV stamp on them.

Well, the 50' Monoprice HOSS Active HDMI Cable does pass DV from ATV 4K to my Sony X930E but only if I bypass the XMC-1. As soon I put the cable in HDMI OUT 2 or 1 on the XMC-1, I get the ATV 4K detecting DV in my Sony but then the content plays in SDR. The XMC-1 should not alter the signal at all, but its definitely doing it and ruining it. I also get HDR but with a LOT of banding that you could easily see on ATV 4K Home Menu.

This is where I read about the DV marked cables: support.apple.com/en-us/ht208074"Check your HDMI cable 4K video, especially HDR10 and Dolby Vision, requires an HDMI cable compatible with these formats. Apple recommends HDMI cables that have the Compatible Dolby Vision mark as they have been tested with Apple TV 4K and a wide range of televisions. An example is the Belkin Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable."

Good point regarding the "it works between two devices, but not three". There's got to be a way to calculate maximums and losses when dealing with pluralities and combos of cables and equipment.

Agree, but what is the point of offering DV in a processor or receiver if there is no way to get DV signal in your display unless you use a HDMI cable that is less than 10' or so? We are talking here of a processor that is mostly installed in dedicated HT rooms that usually have AV closets/racks that are located in most cases more than 25 ft from the display. If you have a projector setup, then you are fine because projectors do not support DV but what about a dedicated HT room with a 85' Sony X900F? I haven't test any other receiver/processor with DV using a long HDMI cable, but as soon I get the new receiver for my bedroom (Marantz SR6013) the first thing I'm going to test is the new receiver/50' HDMI Cable/Sony X930E to see if I get proper DV from ATV 4K and Oppo 203.

But seriously, much like audio, I think the recording quality affects the picture far more than the format it's displayed in. Take Murder on the Orient Express for example, it was shot using the last four 65 mm Panavision cameras in the world and watching it in HDR10 is just amazing. I've watched quite few DV movies and MotOE is the best looking 4K HT movie I have seen so far. Cheers Gary

A question for the HDMI Forum, they are to blame for the loose, vague, inconsistent and unenforced standards that are the route cause of the vast majority of problems we encounter. In simple terms, it ain't Emotiva's fault. Cheers Gary

Hi Ray and Lonnie
Thank you for all of your team's efforts to make V3 HDMI a successful reality to all of us XMC-1 owners.....
Tested 5.1a over the weekend
Dolby Vision now working on AppleTV,
HDR working (up to 4.4.4) on Comcast 4K, AppleTV 4K, Google 4K and Amazon FireTV4K
Also SDR working on all three including switching back and forth between HDR without locking up video
Great progress.....
Pass-through Dolby 5.1, 7.1 or Plus Not working (was working on HDMI 1.4 Board) XMC only sees 2.0
Also AppleTV Pass-through PCM 5.1 Plus Not working (was working on HDMI 1.4 Board) XMC only sees 2.0
Could be that HDMI handshake time is not set long enough for proper Pass-though sync
Also have had to reset XMC for no sound several times
You can statically set AppleTV to decode 5.1 and the same with Amazon then the XMC sees the 5.1 (but the sound quality is nowhere near the pass through of the 1.4 HDMI that was working)
Interested on the other members 5.1a test results.... ( Particularly on the audio side)
Testing was completed with XMC 1 V3 HDMI 5.1a with the following plugged into the XMC 1 HDMI Inputs: Comcast 4K Set top box, AppleTV 4K, Google TV 4K and Amazon Fire TV 4K streaming boxes (not smartTV apps) displayed on a Samsung UN88JS9500 TV plugged into the XMC 1 HDMI Output 2 via IBolt 4K Fiber HDR 18G HDMI cable

Looks to me that those with successful DV pass through have problems with audio only receiving PCM 2.0. I have zero issues with audio. I get all the sound modes, including DD+, DTS-MA, Dolby True HD, Dolby Pro Logic II Movie and Music, DTS, Stereo, Auto, Direct, All Chanels, etc. but I haven't see DV at all.

I do not have a DV capable tv (SonyXBR900E.) I am having issues with audio and video where there is no picture and no audio. If I reboot the Xmc it seems to correct the problem but only getting pcm audio on HDMI when audio is available. Reflashed 5.1a again and still the same results. HDR is working and looks great. (Sony Udp800) I think I will keep the Xmc in low power mode for now so I get the full boot up on start up. Seems to work but as i said only pcm audio and only four modes available. Auto stereo all stereo & direct

If I recall I was one of the first persons that reported that reflashing the XMC-1 resolved some initial issues. I know is a PITA but you may want to try reflashing again from V5.0 to V5.1a to see if that fix the audio issues. Just my 2 cents.

Wonder if that could be an issue. ?? I went from 4.1 to 5.1 then to 5.1a.

N.B. Go v5.0 -> v5.1 -> 5.1a since 5.1a is not a full FW image. Or you should be able to do 5.1 -> 5.1a.
Who else makes good active HDMI cables and/or repeaters/redrivers/retimers?

As for active HDMI cables, the Monoprice HOSS active is working great in my setup. I get no DV but if I bypass the XMC-1 then I get DV. Right now there is one 40' Monoprice HOSS Active HDMI Cable on Amazon for $21. From Monoprice the same cable is $60. Looks like as of today the only active HDMI cable chip that supports full HDR and DV is the Spectra7 (formerly RedMere) HT8181 chipset.

So you think I would be ok going from 5.1a back to 5.0 and so on ? has someone posted V5.0 somewhere ? I have done V5.1a to V5.1 twice and I'm now running V5.1a. I think you should go to V5.1, check if audio issues are fixed. If not, then go to V5.0, check again and if audio is fixed, then reflash with V5.1, check audio, if audio is OK then reflash with V5.1a. I don't have my copy of V5.0 anymore, sorry
