Now that the Oppo has gone away what is the best UHD player for video on the market? All audio will pass through my Marantz via HDMI so I really only care about a good quality player. I have an AppleTV for streaming apps so that part is covered. It’s in my theater room and I don’t really need DV since any projector out now won’t support it.

I have not been keeping up with this but I hear that Pioneer has announced what looks like a premium player.

The Panasonic DP-UB820 is supposed to be released in the US soon, and hopefully its top of the line brother, the DP-UB9000 will also follow.

Panasonic UB900 looks nice I believe this model has already been discontinued(but still available in the market) to be replaced by the DP-UB9000, which at this time is uncertain for US release.

A bit over a year ago I tossed up between the Oppo (which I had on loan from my cousin), the Panasonic (demo from the people I bought my last Panasonic BD player) and the Sony X800. I really couldn’t tell any difference in the video quality between the 3 of them on my Samsung panel. I ruled the Panasonic out early as I didn’t play SACD’s. So it came down to the Oppo or the Sony, for the same video performance and at less than1/3rd the price, the Sony was an easy choice. It’s worked perfectly ever since, no problems, had a couple of seamless wifi software updates, not that I noticed any difference.
I consider BD players to be one of the most disposable bits of gear in my system. So if I have to upgrade it in another year or so it’s not a big (financial) deal. I’ll just get a new one and move on.
Cheers Gary

Yes the Panasonic DP-UB9000 looks like the one to watch as a good future Oppo replacement. It's scheduled to be released at the end of the year in the UK and hopefully we will be seeing them in the US soon as well Article link

If I were looking for a UHD Blu-ray player today that compares favorably to the video performance and processing capabilities of my Oppo, there’s no doubt that the new Panasonic DP-UB820 would be my pick. Due to Robert Zohn’s relationship with Panasonic, Value Electronics already has them available for shipping (see HERE). Other vendors (like Best Buy) will be shipping by the end of this month. HERE is a review of the new player.

Thanks It’s tone mapping. The oppos never got to full p3 for color. Also the hdr slider on the Panasonic is great for adjustability. And it is dynamic. It alters the conversion of tone mapping based on how the disc is authored (number of nits) Oppo has tone mapping for hdr but it doesn’t work properly and probably never will

I replaced an Oppo 203 with it and it’s amazing Did you purchase it through value electronics? BestBuy won’t get it till the end of the month. I’m not in a big rush though so I may just order it through Best Buy since I like being able to do a local return if there is some issue on it.

Cheers Gary Right, SACD is one thing that distinguishes the Oppo’s and Sony’s. So OP needs to decide if that’s part of replacing an Oppo.
