Can anyone please help answer this question: is it possible to replace the original 1.4b board in my upgraded XMC-1 and reflash the v4.1 firmware? Will the unit function properly if I install the XMCupdate-2018_07_16_v5-2b.dat after reinstalling the original video board? Since the upgrade, my formerly excellent XMC-1 performs erratically and unpredictably, and after 3+ months I am reluctant to continue fighting a losing battle. No useful assistance has been forthcoming from Emotiva to date. Any advice is appreciated.

My advice would be to “start over” and work the problem directly with Emotiva customer support via telephone. I have done so and cannot imagine not getting all the necessary help to put you back in shape. No one here that doesn’t work there could possibly guarantee results from what you described. Bill

Thanks for the response. Keith's release notes for the aforementioned firmware version indicates that when installed it can detect which card is present and load the appropriate version. I was hoping someone had actually tried this and could report on their experience. My requests to Emotiva for answers have only received dilatory responses so far. Failure of all firmware updates to correct problems introduced upon initial installation of the new video board lead me to believe a reverse installation might offer hope for restoring my unit to error-free functionality.
On startup with my Harmony One remote I can expect one of the following scenarios: 1) Everything works perfectly. 2) The TV screen is black and the speakers are emitting a high-pitched screech at maximum volume. 3) Video is present, but no audio on any input, none of which are 4k. Only a rear panel switch reboot restores sound. 4) Error messages on TV screen: No signal, switch inputs (only one input is used on the TV.) Occurrences of any of these seem to be random.
Firmware version 5.3beta2 is currently installed. 5.3 only makes things worse. Any guidance is appreciated.

Long shot. Have you tried using different HDMI cables?

yes. I replaced all of my Amazon Basics cables with certified high-speed ones from Blue Jeans, although I do not yet have any 4k devices connected to the XMC-1's inputs. Replacing an in-wall cable was great fun.

Replacing an in-wall cable was great fun. Two things You should be able to reinstall the original board, and that MUST run with 4.1 or OLDER....but you don’t want older, I should think 🤔. That being said it’s important to get the procedure directly from Emotiva. They may want to send you specific firmware to accomplish that without bricking the processor. And secondly I am sure you want to know what’s up with your upgrade. From listening to the latest podcast it sounds like the upgrades have been by and large hugely successful. Perhaps your board just happens to be a lemon. Bill

If I recall correctly, when they launched the new board - the word was "can't go back". That may now be possible, but I would not assume that to be true. Mark
