For giggles... Unplug the HDMI cable and plug it back in to see what happens. I have seen a time or two that mine also gets stuck on 1080p, but it is normal at a time the processor is locked up or about to. Anytime I switch inputs, I have to do this or change inputs on my TV. There is definitely some error handling code still needed I actually ended up getting it to work. Basically I swapped the output from the arc (HDMI 2) to HDMI 1. Still didn’t work. Swapped it back and it started working. It’s weird and I expect the issue to come back but for now at least it’s displaying correctly. That said I am having some very strange things occurring such as audio only coming from half my speakers etc when using and surround mode. Only get all speakers when playing all stereo. Changed in windows from atmos to 7.1 to stereo and same result. Super weird. I’ve had this device for a few months and it has been fairly solid except arc not working at all and things like that but this is all new for me. I do remember others complaining about it. Good thing the new update is due Monday interesting. Do you bitstream audio out? I only use bitstream for all the movie codecs, and then flac or mp3 just outputs at how many ever channels it is. Be sure to set you audio properties to 192khz and 24 bit in shared mode if you want to output above CD quality. Unless you have an app that uses exclusive mode

Always upon power up ... from low power stnby. Never random. Frequency: every 2 mo. prior to 1.7.6. @ 1.7.6, every 3 to 4 weeks. Every 2 mo's with disc OPPO203 movies ... only OPPO connected. Rarely use streaming ... does not happen while streaming. Rarely use music ... does not happen while playing music. Surround modes: happens while playing disc movies. Did not notice which sur mode. Will chk. Sound format: did not notice before or during noise. Will chk. Don't use ref or stereo modes. No sub modes: will chk. This is a bad situation. It's truly a "pop" goes the weasel terrible surprise waiting to happen. Very disconcerting. That's all very good info! Thanks!

There’s for sure something going on at startup. Because yesterday just after I posted in AVS that I had not had any issues with my RMC for several weeks. I got a startup hang again. I got this three times directly after installing 1.7.6. Then several weeks of perfect behaviour.. The first hangs always happened with a Please Wait after the trigger signal had been sent. But yesterday it hanged in Rethink high end before the trigger had been sent. Had to hold the front button for several seconds to shutit down. After restart everything has worked fine every time. I have actually NO issues during use anymore. Input selection is alot faster, I have stopped getting no audio after startup (for several weeks now), hdmi sync works about every time now. I can’t actually not remember a single time it has failed since installing 1.7.6. Although still slow in syncing audio with hdmi..
Edit: No sources where ever on during lockups.

Besides for slow operation, I am enjoying the rmc-1. Really sounds great. I did have my first lockup since 1.7. Sounds exactly the same as previous message. Changed inputs on startup. Just froze with please wait. Front panel shutdown solved issue.
I'm a firmware engineer during the day and have always advocated lean and mean programming. Optimizing code and timing my forte. If I was managing this project, I'd really start over...I understand the changing of settings concurrently, but there are serious flaws in this architecture... my 2c.

Are there any sound quality improvements in 1.8, or is it primarily bug fixes? Tim Tim, is there anything specific you are referring to? Something you notice in the sound, or the processing of it?

If I was managing this project, I'd really start over...I understand the changing of settings concurrently, but there are serious flaws in this architecture... my 2c. I believe in a recent podcast, Lonnie said they had taken a fresh approach with their most recent FW that is about to be released - that it's a total rewrite. So, it sounds like they are doing what you say you would do. I look forward to seeing what people think once it's out next week (Lonnie said it was ready Friday but didn't want to release it on a weekend). Mark

^^^ The "rewrite" would be something for lonnie to cover, again, when 1.8 goes public. I recall the "memory stack" requirements from Dirac has forced, in some regards, the rewriting … but that's as far as I can remember.

Your noise is not a loud as mine and it was with TiVO. My "loud noise" was with OPPO203 as the only source device. It started upon power up and would not shut off until one powered down the RMC-1. It would repeat itself like clock work … every 2 months. 1.7.6 made things different … happened more often, but I also connected TiVO bolt to RMC-1. FYI: Just found and looked over my notes on 1/15/2020: FW 1.5, Noise on Power Up … tried switching inputs (-60dB) ng … had to power down then up to clear noise, No trigger cables attached, Sound Format: PCM7.1/DD_Surround, Dolby Vision, 4K Gemini Man via disc w. OPPO203. Sound format should of been Dolby TrueHD 7.1/ATMOS … so RMC-1 was stuck on PCM 7.1 when "Loud Noise" happened with OPPO203 connected … upon power up. I got 1.7.6 on 1/16/2020 from KeithL . I'll call EMO to report this.

1. When I turn on the RMC-1L, it defaults to Speaker Preset 2, whether the preset was Preset 1 or 2 at last turn off.
2. I have the SACD Priority normally set for multi-channel and PCM output in my oppo 205 player. The RMC plays a SACD in 2.0 regardless of player setting when the output is set to PCM. Switching inputs on the RMC sometimes helps. The RMC does switch channel count when the player output is set to bitstream. This problem didn't start occurring till recently.

For #1, the RMC will load the preset that is assigned to the Turn-On Input when you turn on the unit. So check what the Turn-On input is in settings and see what preset is assigned to that input.

Duh! Thank you! That input speaker preset was assigned to Speaker Preset 2. I thought I was missing something. Brain burp. I also changed the 5.1 and 2.0 settings on that input. 2.0 was set for 'direct' and 5.1 was set for 'auto'. Both are now 'direct'. Will see what this does for #2. Or, perhaps both in 'auto' will be better. The setup features are quite powerful. I am creating an excel spreadsheet to keep track of everything. Not finished with it yet.

I am on this side of the pond and am waiting for the release of 1.8 It is driving me crazy. I just want faster switching of inputs without that noise some here have described. Hopefully the beta testers didn't find anything else wrong over the weekend.

Any step forward is a good one...I'm trying to be glass 1/2 full here...but the DIRAC wait is also becoming ridiculous.

Yeah, though my understanding is that they are looking at March for Dirac. Fingers crossed. I have the XMC-2, so my wait has not been as long as some here with the RMC-1. Especially the early buyers. I'm managing without Dirac, but it worked wonderfully with my XMC-1 and I'm really looking forward to it. As to 1.8, Lonnie mentioned that it could be today....patience is the key.

We've all been very patient. I still am. I like the unit. I want to keep it. But Emo needs to step-up their game. While I'm at it, how about those promised expansion modules? When are those coming? Thank you.
