I have a 120", tab tensioned, gray screen, surface mounted, electric motorized Elite screen. It has operated flawlessly. They have several lines. Pull down, non tensioned screens are of course the least expensive.

I've have a 90" Elite Screens manual pulldown screen for about five years. I don't know the model or screen color, but I recall that it was less than $200. It sees a fair amount of up and down action because I have to raise it to open the dust cover on my turntable, and I have had no problems with it. I have no complaints about the picture, but I am no videophile. If you will have to raise and lower it frequently, a motorized model may be be your best bet--getting the manual model to an exact height (which is key if your projector remains in place) is more art than science.

I have a 135" DIY screen still in box, just needs a frame constructed. It is a gray screen. I'd sell it to you for super cheap, if interested. Call me or txt me if you want: 615-491-3972

A fixed screen won't work for me. I have a wall-mounted TV that will be in use more often. I need a ceiling-mounted screen that I can pull down in front of the TV.
Youse guys bring up another interesting factor that I hadn't considered. When you get above a certain sized screen, tensioning becomes important to keep the screen flat.
First, what is that "certain size?"
Second, are manual-pull-down screens available with tensioning, or is that a feature most commonly found only on motorized screens?
Obviously, I need some edumocation prior to purchase!
The "less than $200" range is definitely my price point. The only reason I'm considering this at all is that I found a 16x9 native 1080p Dell projector at a yard sale for $10. Yes, it works perfectly! I can put it on the coffee table when I want a big-screen show. Normally, my 65" TV is fine, but occasionally...

How about a portable screen on a stand? Cheap on Amazon. Yes, but then I have to store the thing when it's not in use. Much easier to have it retract to the ceiling.

Before planning to relocate, I was going to build a cantilever frame that would swing upwards and "hide" against the ceiling, so I understand your requirements.

Gray is rarer AND more expensive. Nevertheless, I've got PLENTY of lumens, will be watching in a darkened room, and don't want the scatter & blur of a high-gain screen.

How about a portable screen on a stand? Cheap on Amazon. Yes, but then I have to store the thing when it's not in use. Much easier to have it retract to the ceiling. I originally bought one that manually pulled down and was supposed to be exceptionally flat (and even have a special system to keep it flat). It was never flat...it always had a wave that interfered with the image. They said "let it hang for a week or so and it will end up flat". It didn't and it was a reputable brand. It went back. I got a fixed position one. I know you say you can't, but...if you want a pull-down, check with people you trust on how flat the screen will be. Otherwise, prepare for disappointment. Mark

Fixed IS NOT FEASIBLE in my living room, although I agree to its superiority over a pull-down or motorized screen.
Since a flat-panel TV is mounted on the viewing wall, and since I don't want to use the projector for anything but movies, the screen will need to be hung from the ceiling, at least a foot out from the nearest wall so that the TV will not impinge on the screen.
And so far, I've found NO screen, at any price that meets my criteria:
100" diagonal area (plus or minus 8 to 10 inches) 1:0.8 gain ratio with either a gray or black surface (VERY important) Pull-down or motorized ceiling mount 4K compatible Price of $500 or less (also pretty important)
I'm perfectly happy with a Chinese screen, but have yet to find even one of these to my specs. All these larger screens seem to have gain ratios from 1:1 up to 1:1.3. Far too much light scatter for a dark room...

Thanks kindly creimes - I've contacted Focused Technology to see if that screen is available in a ceiling mount. If so, my quest is ended! If not, maybe I could mount an L-bracket on the ceiling & make it work...
