How do you break in a set? Set the sharpness to zero. Set the brightness and contrast to about 30-40%. Set color and tone to about 50%. Then run Blu-rays that have full 16:9 images with constant motion in A-B repeat mode for at least 100 hours (I did mine for 200). No widescreen black bars or static images. It can also be done with a TV show, but be careful as it needs to be something that does not show static channel logos etc. That's why when I did it I picked about 5 Blu-rays ahead of time before my TV even arrived to make sure they were full 16:9. I varied the Blu-rays to make sure the TV got different color pallets every so often (morning when I got up, evening when I got home, and then again before going to bed). I forget them all, but a couple I used were Toy Story and American Pie. It is during this period of time that all TV's (especially Plasma and OLED) need to be "babied" and broken in. Doing so will make your TV run better, run longer, and basically eliminate the chance of burn in (with a bit of reasonable care as you should do with any TV anyway). This info comes from years of reading Sound & Vision, where it has been mentioned several times, particularly by Thomas Norton. Geez, it's probably good advice. I know of nobody that does this! A 100 hours?! Is this a requirement or something?

Interesting to hear that newer TVs have potential issues with burn-in. I figured manufacturers would learn their lesson from Plasma TVs and that local channels would drop their silly logo from the screen. Although my Plasma still has a great picture, I can't wait until the new OLEDs hit the shelves and last year models drop in price as that is when I'm buying...

There are so many stupid laws in the world of broadcasting, why no have one more. I'm not against them putting up the logo for 10 seconds after every commercial, but it should then go away. It should also change position on the screen after each commercial. This should be a law, because they are doing potential harm to MY device that I own. That's not right.

The silver / stainless color wouldn't go in my particular room as it's too modern looking, so if there were other color options it might be on my list; however, since it's a gen 1 product, I personally wouldn't buy it this year. I rather save some money and purchase one of last year's top of the line OLED models. Just my humble opinion...

I watch Fox News a lot, so no OLED for me. I understand that emissive displays perform best, but Bret Brair can only look so good. I watch movies on my projector with 120" screen. Sorry to hear that. Signed, A Former Fox News Channel Employee

I think what ended Plasma was people imposing their will on manufacturers to go "green" as they were, let's face, electricity hogs and cost more to make. However, if I as a consumer was willing to pay the exra cost of ownership, why does someone else care what I do with my money. Again... just my humble opinion. My issue with any and all broadcasting companies displaying their logo on the screen is, as you indicated, causing my product to have a potential issue. In my humble opinion, any screen that has burn in due to a silly logo should be replaced or fixed by that broadcasting company as they caused the issue, not I. If the logo wasn't there, there wouldn't be a cause for a potential issue. That being said, due to this potential issue, I as a consumer will do what I can to eliminate this potential issue from occuring... lowering brightness, sharpness, whatever it takes. My Plasma is used daily for numerous hours a day and is over 7 years old with zero burn in. So although I agree that the consumer should do what they can to avoid it, I am also of the opinion that those logs aren't needed as they cause more harm than good. I for one can never remember, nor do I care what channel, logo, etc. a particular show is on. I remember the show, not the station and to be honest, I can't remember the last time I actually watched a regularly broadcasted show... I'm a Prime, Netflix, Vudu, Plex, streamer.

I could be wrong, as I'm only going off my experience here, is that the big logo push started in the 80's, because of VCR's. Broadcasters didn't want people recording their shows or movies without having a watermark in them. Think simple easy bootlegs of Star Wars or The Cosby Show. What better watermark than their own logo. The one I remember first was NBC, and they did what I said, put it up for about 10 seconds after every commercial. Because you know what, the old CRT TV's had burn in too, and back then, they cared. But over the years more and more stations started doing it and not caring. And by now, since they've made everything digital and no one can legally record anything of their own (DVR does not count because you can't legally remove recordings from said device), the original reason for having the logo in the first place is gone. Now it's just arrogance and laziness if you ask me. I'm not into law making, but this one seems pretty obvious and simple to me. Broadcasters are doing something that is knowingly harmful, so they should be banned from doing it.

Yeah, the logo "bug" is by no means required by law. Ten second station identification each hour is all that is required. The bug is self-promotion.

C'mon guys, you do not understand: it is a public service.
The logo is there to make instantly clear from which side the bias in the news is coming 😂😂😂

Worst than the logos is the area map with weather warnings that stay up all night long especially for flood warnings which can last for days.
