ChadB will be at my home today @5pm to perform an ISF calibration. I'm his first victim in the Tallahassee, FL area as he is arriving in town this afternoon. Another friend of mine is also getting his LG OLED65C8 calibrated this weekend as well, which I helped in persuading him to move on from his Panasonic VT60. Chad also calibrates a list of customers from a local Home Theater installer so he has plenty of work in every area he stops in. This is how these ISF calibraters are able to tour from area to area, you just have to be prepared to possibly wait a few months for their services as they tour different areas. I don't normally throw in a plug for recommending services, but ChadB is the consummate professional for calibrating flat panel TV's and projectors, as well as audio calibrations of different levels. This is the 3rd flat panel he'll be calibrating for me so I can vouch for his skills. I realize ISF calibrations aren't for everyone, and many of you are highly satisfied with your out-of-the-box settings with the aid of a calibration disc, but if you have a 4K flat panel/projector, you don't have the ability to calibrate HDR10/HDR10+/Dolby Vision, and this is where I'm anxiously looking forward to seeing how far off my OLED65C8 is and just how much improved from out-of-the-box to it's full potential will be. Any how, if you're interested, I'm listing his website below, and if you are interested and he doesn't tour in your part of the US, then I assure you, there is another ISF calibration expert that does tour your area. So here are the calibration results that show "Before Calibration" and "After Calibration" for the two SDR picture modes: "ISF Expert Bright Room" & "ISF Expert Dark Room", HDR10 picture mode "Cinema User" and Dolby Vision picture mode "Cinema User". I particularly noticed right off the improvements in skin tones, blues and reds, as well as shadow content. I also see the most difference while viewing SDR content and Dolby Vision, and not as much in HDR10 content. As the results show, my LG OLED65C8 was pretty much in the ball park for the modes chosen pre-calibration, with a few exceptions which you will note in the uploaded files. You'll need Adobe Reader to view the results.

People always say they love when colors pop on their TV, but that is generally the complete opposite of what you want. The fact is most things in real life don't have color that pops. Look around. Most things are muted. Of course some things have popping colors, but most do not. A properly calibrated TV will look real, and for colors that are supposed to have pop, it will.

I asked ChadB about tone mapping and the use of the Oppo UDP-203 or the Panasonic DP-UB820. He didn’t tell me which one he prefers but did say the DP-UB820 was preferred by his projector owner clients. After the calibration when he was checking out the results, he showed me exactly why the choice of the two was a moot point and that’s because the OLED’s tone mapping was every bit as good as either player. He also checked out the Oppo setting that forces “Dolby Vision” processing from HDR and regular blu-rays. While it appeared to bring more definition and “pop” to the picture, it apparently introduced the slightest hint of greenish hue to dark shadow detail. While he’s not normally a fan of this added type of video processing, it would be up to me if I thought the positives outweighs the negative.

My oled has been unboxed for only a week and there are horizontal lines at the bottom right corner that go to the middle of the screen. There are about 10 of them and extend about an inch from the bottom. It was bought in March and is still under warranty so I called LG and they are having a tech call me to set up an appointment. From what I’ve seen from other people with this problem posting on line, this may not be an easy fix. Major sadness!

I wanted to take the plunge on a fancy TV.....just can't get there at the price point for OLED. The old Samsung 55" HDTV is still looking good enough. Good luck to you.

I watched this tv for about 9 months. After Christmas until the end of January is when you will see the greatest drop in price. I got my 65” at $750 off.

Even though the tv has those horizontal lines, I am still using it. I am watching NASA’s 4K UHD channel on Roku. It is awesome to watch!

I bought mine for $2199 from BestBuy late February,, a few weeks later they marked it down $1949 for a few days and someone on here pointed it out so I went back in to get the price difference. You just have to be watching closely come Feb/Mar. Best part about buying locally, you get to return for another new one if anything is initially wrong.

When I decide to buy something that should last a decade or more and costs bunches, I become as patient as a Nile crocodile and begin to watch that item’s price. The holiday season, Thanksgiving through New Year’s, is when things start to go on sale and stay on sale for the longest period. Although, after Christmas and until the end of January is when the prices are the lowest. The other holidays throughout the year, i.e. 4th of July or Memorial Day offer discounts but not as great as right after Christmas. I’ve often suggested to my family that we do Christmas in mid January but you can imagine how that meets resistance.

HDTVbyChadB: www.hdtvbychadb.com/I sent Chad a note to see if he can do the audio calibration including my Stealth 8 once I get the XMC-2. I am not liking the speakers compared to my B&W 802 but I am forever downsized and will not be able to host tower speakers again. I am giving the Stealth 8 the benefit of the doubt till I can get the new XMC and some help on this. If there is a different calibration specialist for Emotiva please share out. I am on Kent Island Maryland in the town of Chester.

Not sure how anyone with a modern OLED has burn in. My tv is on all day long. Lg c8. No burn in. It has pixel shift, logo fade, and auto screen saver. Seriously anyone that doesn’t run it as a computer monitor should be fine. To me even if it does get some burn in, in 4-5 years; I’ll still buy another OLED. The picture is just to dang good.
