I smiled when I see how many folks have mentioned the "Vet" price at Tidal. I always like seeing that. Actually, I purchased my XPA-3 Gen3 by using the Vet discount and at the time was the deal-maker for me.

I know that this is probably yet ANOTHER of those questions where the REAL answer is "it depends". So, I am new to this "Streaming" stuff and just got my shiny new BlueSound Node 2i set-up and starting to play-around with it. I want to look at the Streaming Services - I know that several have a "free" Trial Period (Tidal and Qobuz Sublime, and perhaps others) But: In reality - how likely am I to notice the difference in sound quality between Tidal's "Premium" (CD or better) vs. "HiFi" (MQA) Service? If you have tested their service - how BIG of a difference did YOU notice? (The Internal DAC / Streamer within the Node 2i is supposed to be "Optimized" for use with Tidal's MQA Service.) Congratulations on the Node 2i, this DAC has a lot of bang for the buck. I listen to music for several hours per day. I rarely watch TV, except for movies. I use Roon to manage my CD library and the streaming from Tidal with MQA service (and Qobuz) using the Bluesound Node 2i and I can hear a difference with MQA when it comes to clarity and separation. Do your own comparisons. I have CD and MQA versions of the same music and to me, the MQA does sound different. Enjoy the new DAC, you are really going to like it!

What physical streaming device hardware is decent as I'm also thinking of adding H Res streaming to my set up. I have an OpportunityBD-103 around and looks like I may be able to use that to connect to Tidal

When it comes to Tidal, it is well-known for its high audio quality. If you want to use Tidal music on other devices with high quality, then you could give a try to the tool Music Converter for Tidal. It can convert Tidal to MP3, FLAC, etc. with original quality and allows you to use Tidal music on other platforms and devices with ease.

Remember that Tidal (High Quality) streaming is actually CD resolution (44.1)
Qobuz streams up to 96k or 192k, and is the highest resolution streaming service available.
These two are the best choices for audio quality; I subscribe to both for that reason.
What's the point of streaming at 320 or mp3 levels? With the systems we have, they should only be fed the best.

I stream for background music. I use Pandora or my Plex server. When I want to sit down and listen, I stream from my hard drive. Much better sound. So for me, streaming from outside my library is always a secondary choice and I am not as picky about that.

kellykenI noticed this is your 2nd post and both relate to this "music converter" thing. I don't understand why it's needed. Per a direct response to you on your 1st post, I posted this: I still have not heard an answer. Can you please elaborate? Mark

I listen to Tidal through my Cambridge CXN Streamer as well on my iPhone which I pair via Bluetooth to Carplay in my van and to a portable speaker I carry when traveling. So far, I have never had an issues with Tidal that make me believe there is any converter needed.

I listen to Tidal via Roon. Works perfectly, and I pay the extra $ for the CD quality audio. To me it sounds better than lower bitrates.
