Good evening all. So, I'm in need of some help form any and all with more experience than I have with this fancy new to me Preamp. Been working great, until 10 mins ago when after shutting it all down I hooked up some 12v trigger wires to get my XPA-2 amp and ERC-3 CD player to start when the preamp was turned on. Well long story short, it clicked, it lit up blue for a very brief millisecond, shutoff....and now will not come at all. Just a click, then back to the yellow colored light......tried shutting off power completely.....zippo. I unplugged the main power cord, reinstalled cord, turned on backside switch, yellow light, push the power button, get a click and then nothing. I'm at wits end, as I bought on Audiogon and never got the guy to transfer the warranty ( I'm new to Emo stuff, didn;t know about the transfer thing). Anyway, any help, suggestions etc......sucks having NO tunes on a wintery Friday night.
Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott, try unplugging everything except the power cord and then power it up. If it does then something connected to it has an issue, plus them back in one by one. If it doesn't then check the fuses, remove the case (screws side and rear). There are 2 slow blow fuses, just hold them up to the light you should be able to see if they have continuity. You can get replacements from any decent electronics parts store, take an old one in as a sample.
Cheers Gary

Good advice above. I hope it works out to being just a fuse.

Thanks for the reply / Info. These new digital clicky components got me nervous....Hahaha. Luckily I kept the very old but simple Adcom gfp-555ii......for times like these, still works fine!!
Thank you!!

Hi Scott, keep us posted if you sort out the problem with your XSP preamp. If you’re still having problem turning the unit ON let me know. I might have a solution for it.

Thanks for the reply. After messing around for a bit last night It came back to life. I unplugged the trigger wires, I'll turn amps on manually. I did find that using the remote, I have to hold the standby button in or it won't come online. If I just quickly hit the button the XSP quickly clicks on & then back off ( yellow light). This also is the case with the front power button.....must hold it in or no dice. I'm concerned that it might be a bad power relay or power supply? And like a dumb ass I never requested the warranty from the guy I bought it from off Audiogon......I'm sure it won't be cheap if I indeed need to send it back on my dime. It's a beautiful piece of equipment though, much nicer than anything I've ever owned before. I got a bit carried away buying Emo gear I think.....bought the XSP, then a XPA-3 Gen 1, XPA-2 Gen 1, ERC3 Gen 2, ERT 8.3 speakers and finally a Sherbourn SR-120.....which from what the guy said was once a sister company of Emotiva.
Thank you!
Scott

How do you have the triggers wired? There is a limit to how many you can have in parallel. Maybe try the triggers in series, say have the ERC-3 (trigger out) turn on the XSP-1 (trigger in), then have the XSP-1 (trigger out) turn on the XPA-2 (trigger in). That gives you stereo music. For movies maybe have the SR-120 turn on (trigger out) the XPA-3. The series triggering means one component isn’t trying to cope with the simultaneous multiple loads, plus it means there’s no big power surge (demand) when they all turn on at once.
Cheers Gary

Hi Scott, keep us posted if you sort out the problem with your XSP preamp. If you’re still having problem turning the unit ON let me know. I might have a solution for it. After a few months....the XSP-1 started acting up again. Last night I had to cycle the power button 5 times before the unit would come on and stay on. This is very frustrating for a piece of equipment at this price point, and perhaps why the original owner sold it on Audiogon to me.....although he made no mention of this phantom power on issue. I'm against leaving the XSP-1 on all the time as I travel for work and don't like the idea of leaving gear on while I'm away. Has anyone else had issues with the power not coming on right away, having to cycle through multiple attempts before it stays on? The relay clicking loudly when power button is pushed in has to be the culprit.....and I'm sure would be several hundreds of dollars to have Emotiva fix as I have no warranty.......it's got me thinking I should have kept the Adcom GFP-555 II

The relay clicks are normal, but that doesn’t rule out the possibility that there may be a weak or faulty one. Have you tried to contact the seller to see if there’s any remaining warranty and, if so, get it transferred over to you..? If you have the seller’s information, you may be able to do this yourself. If you do, call Emotiva and see if they can help you get the warranty transferred. Also, Emotiva’s product “support” is free for the lifetime of the product regardless of the warranty status. It may be of some benefit to you to contact support and see if they can offer some assistance. It very well could be something that is easily fixed outside of a warranty repair. Hope this helps...

Doc1963, thanks for the info. The original owner I have a name, this is a Gen 2.....probably not still in the window of warranty. I'll try calling EMO support and see what they offer up, I'm not expecting much though. Buying from Audiogon, Ebay and even on here is always buyer beware, but always feel people should be as up front as possible when you're dishing out hundreds of dollars. Love the preamp, hate the clicky on/off, on/off, finally on garbage.

Sounds like the exact issue I had with my Gen1. Turned out to be a bunch of elco's on the power board, one of them had popped and leaked all over the board. They were on the right side next to the heat sinks.
I had it repaired several times and when it was finally working again, I had a power spike, blew all the fuses on the power board and it never made a sound after that. I had bought that one second hand and I had no idea what happened to it before I got it. I was so done with it after years of problems, I put a hammer to its insides and threw it away.
On the bright side, I bought a new one, received it today and just hooked it up (came here to post about it) .

Scott Not saying but could be a bad trigger wire(s). A short in it maybe, or open.
