When I put together the two HT systems in my signature, choosing a TV seemed easy. Just make sure it is plasma and get the biggest one your budget will allow. I now want to replace the TV in my 7.1 system below, and I do not want to replace anything else. I realize that may limit some of my options.
We view mostly Prime/Netflix/Comcast On Demand. Most of our viewing is at night and the room is fairly dark even by day.
My budget is $2,000 firm, and that needs to include tax, delivery and wall-mounting. I'd like to think the current wall-mount will do the job, but I really don't know about that.
What should I look for?

So you're looking closer to 1300-1500 then?

You can easily get an LG or Samsung 65" UHD 4K LED for less than $2K. If you want plasma-like image quality, however, you'll need to up your budget and look at the OLED systems.

OLED is not an option for me? Can they be had for less than $2K all in? If so then that's the way to go right now in my opinion.

After some quick searching, it looks like a 55" OLED might be possible. If the choice is between a 55" OLED and, say, a 70" LED, would you still go for the OLED?
Also, does my MC-700 affect video pass through in any meaningful respect. I know audio is limited in that Dolby Atmos won't fly, but I think I am OK on that front.
I suspect this might be a good time to look for open box or last year's model options.

OLED’s are great, but if you can get a 70” decent (Sony, Samsung etc) for the same price as a 55” OLED then I would go with the bigger screen.

I have the 75” 2018 version of this TV and I have been very happy with it as well. With the FALD backlighting the black levels are pretty good. Not OLED levels, but at the price point it is a great TV. One other option would be to hit a few Best Buy’s and look at open box units. Since you are wall mounting there always seems to be a few open box TVs there that are missing the table stand that Best Buy will get super aggressive with the pricing on. You should be able to find an open box 65” OLED at your price range if you look hard enough.

Been a few weeks, but I’ll wait for an exceptional deal! 😁 I’d ne thrilled with a Q8 as well.

You may be able to find an LG OLED65B8 close to what you’re willing to pay, and their 55in are definitely in your range or less. I got my LG OLED65C8 open box for $2099+tax 3 weekends ago. Also, I found that the BestBuy advertised on-line price on the LG OLEDs was higher than in-store pricing by as much as $300, though that may have changed since I got my OLED.

In the LG OLED line, what is the difference between a B8 and a C8?

David is right, plus the stand is different. The B8 has the A7 processor and the rest of the LG OLED line has the A9 processor. I believe the actual panel is shared throughout the whole LG OLED line.

Or, like me going the cheaper route, are you just using Rtings settings?

And this is the TV in our living room, so I guess I’m happy with it the way it is as we watch most of our movies upstairs in the theater room anyway.

I found a OLED65B8 online for $1,749. It is a NewEgg connected vendor, so I trust my money is reasonably safe.
