I am happy to report that today I went to the Redbox and I rented my first 4K disc on Redbox. Yes I have been waiting for a 4K Disk rentals and this is my first. It was $2.50 for A star was born. I have yet to see the movie but I just want to share this. More to follow.

I really miss Redbox up in Canada, $2 a rental for Blu-ray A big whatever. Redbox blows big f*cking chunks, for so many reasons. What we miss is Hollywood Video and even Blockbuster. 1000x better. Those two would have every 4K option available IF they hadn't gotten f*cked over by the bull schiit that is Redbox. Can I make it any more clear?

Blockbuster, the good'ol days strolling the aisles with the current flavor of the month(Girlfriend) looking for something to watch before making whoopee bahaha, I'm pretty sure it's the interwebs fault for that one, it really does bring back good memories though of checking for movies in Blockbuster, it really was a weekend routine of mine, a part of my life that brought great joy

Blockbuster late fees - more despised than cable when they would hike rates.

I am not here to defend Redbox but that is all that is left for rentals unless I go to Walmart and rent from the blue box or whatever it’s called. I am with you, I sure miss going to blockbuster and the common courtesy to rewind the tape or just pay the penalty fees. All I have to say is that I prefer the hard disk as opposed to streaming and unfortunately that is is my only option. It made me happy to be able to rent a 4K disc like the good ol’ days even if it is from a kiosk. The picture quality on a physical disc will always be superior to the streaming option.

In retrospect, I love Blockbuster late fees because they inspired me to buy stock in Netflix. siggie I wasn’t surprised when I saw how well Netflix did in the marketplace, being one of the earliest customers. Now I know I’m getting older....my membership is nearly 20 years old started in 2000. In the beginning, lots of discs were getting “lost” in the mail, (but stolen actually). I had several instances early on of discs either not making it to my house, or not arriving back with Netflix. When the issue recurred, they threatened to suspend my account. Later on, as discs in the mail became commonplace and nobody cared anymore, the problem went away. Bill

Sorry for my post above for being so blunt. I thought about deleting it but realise it won't truly go away since someone quoted it, AND, more importantly, it IS how I personally feel.
We've had this discussion before so no need to detail it all again. Its simply both my wife's and my opinion that in our very suburbia area, there are no redeeming qualities of Red Box (and Netflix) over our old Hollywood Video. On the contrary, there are only negatives.

Blockbuster today is akin to a cooper or blacksmith or typesetter. No need.

I really failed to mention though, as per this thread, I am happy for people who like Red Box that they are able to get 4K discs. That is cool to hear.

I’m interested in a convenient 4k disc rental. Currently I have only been buying 4k discs and only ones I really want and think I will watch again.

No 4k at Redbox in our area yet but I'm really hoping for it. $2.50 for 4k and $2.00 for a BD are bargains. Add to that you can reserve titles and then return them to any location that's convenient to you.

I live between 2 of their boxes, one no less than three blocks and the other maybe 10 blocks. While I prefer UHD blurays my Oppo UDP-203 does a fantastic job sending 1080p bluray movies to my OLED in Dolby Vision. So much so I’ve been re-watching many of my blurays that haven’t already or won’t be re-mastered on UHD bluray media.

I would guess that some public libraries will start to carry 4k discs within a couple of years. Vancouver Public Library (VPL) has had blu-rays for a number of years now but my library still stuck with DVDs.:-( VPL example: vpl.bibliocommons.com/item/show/3675914038

Blockbuster today is akin to a cooper or blacksmith or typesetter. No need. Typesetting is probably only for show now, but cooperage is still a thing. As long as people like fine wine and whiskey, there's a calling for hand made barrels.

Well I watched the movie. It took me a couple of days so I will pay the late fees. The movie had some extras such as some music clips that were part of the movie. Usually, Redbox movies don’t have any extras so this is a start in the right direction. The picture quality was outstanding with Dolby Vision and you guys with the RMC can benefit with the Atmos track, nonetheless it is still awesome with the XMC. If anyone else knows of any other 4K movie rentals via Redbox or any other place let me know please. I am slowly building my 4K collection but I know that there are some movies that I’m ok with only watching once and don’t want to make the investment and buy it.

Until recently I had no idea Redbox still existed! Then, I saw one. It's the first I have seen in years.
