Not surprising, your 5 and 7 + numbers are the highest so far. Stereo, then object based follow. Bill Not surprising at all. This is first and foremost a music based forum. If this same poll was posted on a home theater predominant forum the results would be far different. On a side note.... cheers on the Chris Botti suggestion a while back. This is like going to the diy section of avs and asking whether an svs pb2000 or ultimax 18 is better. Or hitting the klipsch forum and asking whether Polk rtia9’s or klipsch rf7’s are better. Or asking here whether the xmc or anthem Avm60 is better. Sample is flawed and will be biased to whatever the particular forum caters to. Love the drummer on that Botti disc. He’s a Lunatic (and a great one at that) Bill

I am actually a little surprised 5.x is the majority because Emotiva's advanced surround processors are a huge topic in The Lounge.

I am actually a little surprised 5.x is the majority because Emotiva's advanced surround processors are a huge topic in The Lounge. I’m not at all surprised. There is still a good more deal of discussion then implementation of speaker layouts that go beyond 5.1. For the AVERAGE enthusiast, even here as indicated by those numbers. Sound bars are picking up steam, and the average movie fan still, after 7 years hasn’t a clue what object based audio is (or cares). Bill

Anyone here part of the Home Theater Enthusiasts group on Facebook ? I’d be curious what results this same poll would produce there.

Interesting question. I use a 3.1 with a zone II for tv and internet browsing. The 3.1 is the center channel & surrounds with the SVS sub. The zone II on most of the time and Yamaha in party mode.
2.0: Song Towers and the S1000 integrated for music. They have excellent bass so no sub is needed. The S1000 has no sub out anyway.
For movies it's 5.2.
I've kicked around the idea of adding Atmos speakers but I don't really like the idea of cutting holes in the acoustic tile ceiling to add speakers, or even small holes for surface mount speakers. I suppose I could glue the wires to the ceiling. Eh, no. And those Atmos speakers that bounce the sound off the ceiling aren't going to get much bounce off acoustic tile ceilings. I suppose I could mount small cubes on the ceiling, but I enjoy 5.2 movies and don't see the need to keep upgrading to the next gotta have it features. If I make any changes it'll likely be back to a 2.0 setup.

2.0 for music. 7.2 for anything else. What's this Atmos thingy?? Not gonna happen anytime soon. (Of course, I said the same thing about 7.1)
There's just one a/v setup in the house. The old plasmas are collecting dust. I thought I'd use them elsewhere, but so far, not.

5.0 in the living room. Theater under construction will be 7.1.4 with six mono subwoofers. Wouldn’t that be a 7.6.4 theater under construction? 😁 👍 Too many ways to count the bass channel. Since there's only one source channel that's what I count. The subwoofers should be a cohesive system with an arbitrary number of transducers and amplifiers all tied together with dsp at the front end. In my case, four 15" sealed subs driven by two channels, and two more subs - yet to be built - with another two channels of amplification. The new subs might be two drivers per box. 7.(2a>4s+2a>2s).4 dot 1 dot is easier

11.1 in the theater for movies and depending on my mood, 2.1 for music or 11.1

What's this Atmos thingy?? Not gonna happen anytime soon. (Of course, I said the same thing about 7.1) I wonder how much Atmos content will be made available by the streaming services?
