Here's the picture of my new antenna/picture frame - complete with my new favorite picture of my kids dressed up for prom last weekend. This is a really cool way to have a local antenna, and it works great. Mark

LOL! It does sometimes worry me how pretty she it. And, that's she's that pretty and equally brainy and a wickedly good athlete makes her quite special - the total package. Now, my son is that guy who's totally respectful to all, lives up to everything you expect of an Eagle Scout, and he's a black belt and in the Navy. So, he'll put you down on the ground, then reach down and offer you a hand to get back up - all with a smile on his face. And caution - he looks out for his little sis... Mark

So yes, you definitely have something to be worried about. Hopefully that brain of hers keeps her safe from the wolves. Only chance I got is that they say boys go for woman that remind them of their moms, and girls go for boys that remind me of their dads. You and me both got that round bald German head with glasses thing going on. Other than that, her and I would have to be the last 2 people in the world stranded on a desert island for a sweet young thang like her to look twice at me.....😎

I have a flat antenna so it is a hassle moving it to capture certain channels since it is mounted on a window.

Especially if a given station broadcast only one channel in HD, all the bandwidth is assigned to it. The fact that there is finite amount of RF channels plays in favor of quality vs quantity. Cable providers try to stuff too many channels into whatever bandwidth they have available, compressing left and right. With the widespread use of fiber optic things are a bit better, but ironically often cable TV quality, even in supposed HD (meaning that is has 1080 lines) is worse than OTA HDTV.

My additional Roku's arrived, so now I have 3 Roku Ultra's (all hardwired) and 1 Streaming Stick+ (wireless). Next step, call Spectrum!
I've been very pleased with the ease of setup and use of the Roku's and Hulu Live. Changing the channel lineup and add-ons has been so easy with Hulu...SO MUCH BETTER than dealing with Spectrum or DirecTV (whom I dreaded calling).
And, the quality is great. The only little glitch I had was in setting up the Roku Ultra with the XMC-1. It was trying to detect the video quality automatically to set up the video output and got hung up. I eventually pulled the power on the Roku and then plugged it back it. It tried again and stopped and said it needed me to manually enter the brand of TV or come back later. Roku is kind of dumb for things that are not TV's. But, I can program my Harmony Remote to control the Roku. I'll get around to that this weekend.

The Roku is a sweet device and there is a Roku app for your phone/tablet so can use the phone/tablet as a remote.

So far, I've been busy making sure both my wife and I were happy enough with the basic services to cut the cable. After I get the Harmony set up for the Roku in the HT, I'll try the app. Mark

I finally had time to call up TWC/Spectrum to cancel my services (other than internet), and it reminded me why I hated dealing with them. I called in, and "all operators were busy...a minimum of 45 minute wait time". I selected the option to have them call me back when an operator was ready, and they did in about 40 minutes...only to put me on hold to wait for the person who was ready to talk to me for about 3 minutes. When that person came on, they said "oh, I don't handle reduction of services - I will transfer you" So, after another 3 minute wait, I was finally at the right person and had to explain (once again) what I wanted to do. I had to give him a lot of info and was expecting I'd have to fax in a copy of my birth certificate. Then, his system was not responding so I had to wait until he could access my account details...several minutes. And then, he proceeded to read a script that included all the details of each service I currently had, the current bill amount, etc. Finally, he was ready to disconnect me...but not before that last minute "I can lower your bill by $50 right now" offer. I said no and he tried to talk me out of it, and I said "no, no, no...just do what I said". After another 10 minutes, I was finally off the line.
Within minutes, I had a phone call offering me a new deal with them. I said "no and don't call back!"
So, at this point, I now have 3 operating Roku Ultra's all hardwired, and 1 Roku Streaming Stick+ (wireless). And, the Harmony remote in my HT is not reprogrammed so it controls a Roku Ultra.
And, if I need to change any services on the Roku or with Hulu, their on line systems are great and easy to make changes...with none of the BS and wait time I had with Spectrum. Knowing what I know, I should have cut the cord earlier and would do it even it the cost were the same (just to avoid the "customer service" of TWC/Spectrum.

PS - I found the "Painting with Bob Ross" channel on the Roku. My wife and I watched the 1st episode last night and it really took us back in time!

Hi all, I just had to comment on this again so the cable went off Sunday night I was a little disappointed because I thought I would get to see one more race but it was rained out. So Monday I went to the Cox store it was full of customers returning equipment. It seem a lot of us are cutting the cable. I already ordered internet service from Century Link it was installed today so I'm back on line and I can't tell any difference from the cox service except the price. The installer said that I actually could have gone lower and slower he only has 40megs available where he lives I have 80megs. He said that $75.00 is a good price. He also suggested I get a basic Direct TV cable package for $45.00. I'm thinking Amazon 4K fire stick is where I'm going. I've already downloaded the U-tube video with instructions on how to jailhouse break the fire stick which will allow me to get everything. I played it from beginning to end and I can't see any reason I should not be able to complete the process. This is to be continued... I really don't want to cable again but I am suffering from cable withdrawal lol.

We've even found several things we like far better than cable. The 1 thing I don't like so far is the Hulu Live guide. A major improvement was announced to be launched in the "spring" but no firm date. From what I see, it fixes my only complaint. Mark

I've been running a Hauppauge tuner card in my PC with a good antenna in my attic for the last 10 years. I use NextPVR for a PC app that allows me to tune in channels to my PC for PVR use and a channel guide. The channel guide is $25 per year from Schedules direct. I have the antenna to my TV (cable routed to several rooms) and get 40+ channels. Of course Amazon or Netflix supplies other watching options. What service can I get that will let me select various other "cable" related channels?

Only significant difference is that I use Window Media Center to record OTA HDTV (it has its own free TV guide) and then I stream it to my LCD TV via Plex using a Roku Premiere+. I supplement Netflix and Amazon with an occasional subscription to Sling TV, mostly during big sport events, like the Olympics or the Soccer World Cup. We do not watch that much TV to justify a monthly subscription.

Media Center was very good for managing OTA recording, but since 10 came out, Media Center disappeared which is why I run Next PVR & Schedules Direct. I'm running HDMI from my PC to the MC-700. I'll have to investigate Sling or other similar options. Thanks
