When I try to look at my library via J-River, I now get the following message: "Error starting direct 3D engine - Unknown DirectX or hardware failure." This only happens since I installed the latest operating system upgrade. The web is full of discussion about this, but the only threads I've been able to find are for Windows, and I'm on a Mac.
And before some arrogant troll tells me to switch to Windows, note that the VAST majority of problems mentioned on the web pertain to J-River with WINDOWS.
Presumably, J-River may (or may not) get a fix posted. But if J-River is true to form, they'll post a Windows fix promptly and then delay six months before addressing the Mac issue. This is why I moved to Roon...
But if anyone's fixed this, I'd be most interested in how.
Thanks - Boomzilla
PS: This is the straw that has finally broken the J-River camel's back. I just bought & installed dBPoweramp and am happily ripping.

Dude, you should get a Windows PC. And, give up on JRiver.
(well, at least #2 applies...)

I'm running JRMC 24 and 10.14.4. I'm more than happy to poke around at my settings. Was it 10.14.4? Or 10.14.5? Which looks to be in my current set of updated. I assume you posted over here? yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=57.0Sometimes I wish I'd bought into Roon lifetime early. Now it seems hard to justify $499.

I'm on the upgrade every other time. So I'm waiting for 26 beta...

Since the Mac Mini music server is for that single purpose only, and since its only interaction with the internet is to search for cover-art and disc information, I'm wondering why I do the OS upgrades at all...
The two business machines (both MacBook Pros) are more complex since they have to connect in non-secure environments like hotel wi-fi. They also run virtual Windows 7 machines via VM-Ware Fusion. And to make things more joyful, I actually have a HP Windows 10 laptop that is kept for one piece of software that one client demands.
In addition, my wife (for whom I'm "live-in tech support") has a Windows 7 netbook, an obsolete iMac (that I can't get her to clean off so I can sell it), and a new Mac Mini.
In the "further obsolete" category, we also have a white plastic MacBook that my daughter used in college, and an iPad mini (used as a controller for Roon).
Every time I try to get rid of some of these, the wife comes up with some excuse why we can't. I think she's a "computer hoarder."
Sigh...

Boom - most consumer-focused software is designed to work on Windows, and Mac is an afterthought. Go down to BestBuy, buy a cheap Win10 PC, and enjoy life again.

Hi wilburthegoose - Last time I tried that, I swore I'd never do it again. Yes - I'd agree that most consumer-focused software IS designed for Windows, and Mac IS an afterthought. That said, I'm uninterested in the quantity of software available, and more interested in the quality. Say what you want about Mac, the Apple software is a smooth ride on Apple hardware. I'll avoid PowerPoint studiously if I can use Keynote, for example. To equate enjoying life with using Windows just doesn't compute. Boom PS: dB Poweramp for Mac is just SCHWEEEEEEEET!

Hi Soup - I don't know - I don't use JRiver any more. I'm ripping with dB Poweramp and then letting Roon automatically index the rips.

Why can’t you run a second Windows 10 VM with your client’s special software and get rid of the HP laptop? MacOS 10.14.5 is actually a fairly big update, including new Airplay 2 features, and from a security standpoint; I’d consider upgrading to it and do your troubleshooting from there (but I get that this particular machine may not need those features).

That is okay. Windows and Mac OS breaks things equally. Won't even tell you about big accounts In the print biz that got pissed on both. Yeah nice to be a tech and cuss both OS's equally.

And yet another mystery -
Today I ripped a bunch of CDs to my media disc using dB Poweramp. And the files are there - I can see them with Finder.
But when I start Roon, It's supposed to auto-import any new music it sees on the media disc. But it isn't doing it. Why?
