I have the 8 film collection in 4k and on sorcerer stone I have the option of extended or theatrical edition when I start it up. This is the only one with this option I’ll have to check mine, I could’ve easily overlooked that option. Thx for pointing that out.

I preordered this a few weeks back. Looking forward to this as I really enjoy these 3 movies. If the remastering is top notch I’ll also get the 3 Hobbit movies as well. Anxious to hear how you like these, I have the Blu-ray set which looks and sounds great, but there are lots of opportunities for immersive audio to shine. The LOTR movies are out for delivery today, so hopefully I’ll get to check them out this evening, work permitting of course.

Including the credits, it appears the total length of the movie in my set is 02:31:59. Not sure if that time is for the theatrical or extended release. The 4K collection must have had several different releases. Movie does look good though in 4K HDR. Best regards to all, Steve A.

Just out of curiosity I checked when I purchased the set. It was April 7 of this year.
When started, the movie does go to a menu screen, but there is no place to choose what version to watch. Go figure?

I have noticed that there are a lot of fakes being reported on Amazon. Check your seller and the packaging to see if you got an original disc or not. Like if it was Amazon as the seller, you're probably good. If it's a fake, usually the packaging will look a bit shabby, the print a little washed out. The menus also may look very poorly done. There may be spelling errors, a lack of or a weird barcode. The disc holders may also look very cheap.

Also, the box art and spelling looks good as well as the movies. At the time I purchased, I remember there were several different sets being offered. It could be that there was a more costly version than the one I ended up getting.

I originally had a British HP UHD set, but sent it back because it didn't have the additional Blu-ray copies that were advertised; the US release coincided with Amazon Day or Black Friday so I was happy to get that instead (w/BRD). I've not had any problem with counterfeits on Amazon, but I'm sure they're out there.

Of course it was advertised as brand new.

No atmos, Bass is deep and clean, not gimped like most 4k discs.

Now I'm going to have to track down the "Sorcerer's Stone" that has the "extended" version.

Just delivered! Digital code does seem to be active yet. Well what do you think?! Impressive you got it today because it was released today! Most certainly is of reference quality. The Dolby Atmos track is most definitely an improvement over the DTS-HD MA 6.1 track on the 1080p blurays. Makes good use of the surrounds and height/immersive channels. The 4K video remastering is outstanding, detail is obvious in comparison to the 1080p blurays. Interesting observation, while my OLED was professionally ISF calibrated by Chad B, I have grown to prefer the HDR10 calibration a bit more over the Dolby Vision calibration with most movies. While both look fantastic, simplistically, Dolby Vision tends to be a little darker overall and HDR10 a bit brighter. With the 4K LOTR movies, I'm preferring the Dolby Vision processing over the HDR10. These movies tend to be of darker filming, and the Dolby Vision processing really shines in the different shades of black/grey/white.

Looking at the Harry Potter collection I have, it says that the movies are 4K ultra HD with HDR. For the life of me I cannot find the Dolby Vision version on Amazon no matter how much I look. Can someone please direct me to the Dolby Vision set that you are all talking about?
Thanks much.
Steve A.

I received my "LOTR" and "Hobbit" pre-orders yesterday. I didn't get the chance to open them until this morning, but did take a few minutes to watch some of "The Fellowship of the Ring". Wow... Just WOW... This is what all 4K restoration work should be measured up to. No shortcuts taken and no "downrezzing" of the 4K master to 2K to mix in the CGI. They did the opposite by uprezzing the CGI to 4K...!!! If you are a LOTR fan and have a 4K display, these are a "must own". They're superb...

The "digital copy" (streaming versions) are likely Dolby Vision. EDIT: I'm adding this LINK which discloses the specs for the discs. Hope this helps...
