Just went to my 50th High School reunion, and while I’m in better shape than many of my classmates, I had a large hiccup in my summer fitness and weight loss. So back on the wagon today, and the dogs will get a nice walk out of it. On the upside I saw many old friends (and several I had no idea I went to school with), but especially great was playing a picnic concert with the band that formed when three of us met in freshman english. We've remained friends all of these years and even get together at my place every year or two to play music, eat, drink and reminisce. Friends like these are what it’s all about. (I’m in black)

Did I mention I’m down 5 lbs since starting this thread? yes it’s been slow and I could make medical excuses but I’ve never been one for excuses! I’m just not able to move enough. I’m down to a bowl of Wheaties per day, just need movement Congrats on the weight loss! But are you saying that your only food is a bowl of Wheaties each day? Almost, that’s supper most days with a single slice of peanut butter rye toast and a boost vitamin drink for breakfast with my meds.

Congrats on the weight loss! But are you saying that your only food is a bowl of Wheaties each day? It's great that you lost the weight but don't jeopardize your body. Did you run that past your doctor?

To repeat the good repeatable. Everyone who wants to be healthy can be. Those who are full of excuses well, sorry, that is not going to get it done. You can make a difference and make your life better. You are in the land of choices. If you are done making excuses, isn't about time to make that choice for a better healthier life? I am glad I did. My schedule was Cardio Vascular, and an hour and half of Ping Pong. Now since the Ping Pong Table is gone, I ramp up the Cardio big time. I have people close to me that don't believe what I am doing could not work for them. Most of them who say that to me are doing nothing. So yeah, doing nothing makes them an authority. For everyone here pushing for great health, I applaud you and keep on pushing on my own too because it is catching.
To everyone's health.

Wow! Haven't been here much this summer and completely missed this. My wife and I started doing Nutrisystem back in late March. I tipped the scales at 265lbs. I had my right knee worked on for the 3rd time in December and got a report from the surgeon in Feb. On the reported it showed me as obese. I knew I was too heavy but never thought of myself as obese. I decided that I didn't want to classified as obese so we started Nutrisystem. My wife is doing it with me, she only wanted to drop a few lbs, which helped since we could encourage each other. I've lost 66lbs as of this week. My knees feel so much better. We started doing workouts in May and I've even been able to run without pain. I hadn't been able to do that for quite a while.
The Nutrisystem food has made us realize what a serving of something really is. This has helped me when I'm eating out to limit what I eat. The other thing that has helped me is their system of eating many small meals/snacks each day.
We've stopped the NS now and are doing our own thing but being smarted about it and making better choices. Also continue to workout 3-4 times per week. Actually look forward to the workouts now.

Exercise is important for bodily function and heart health. However exercise can be easy, like 30 minutes a day walking, recumbent bike on an easy setting. You really don’t need to exercise to “burn calories”
Calories in and calories out is a food marketing ploy. The less calories or fat an item has (when it’s reduced) comes with more SUGAR!!!!
If you stop eating the sh** they put in bags, boxes, cans etc you will lose weight!
Refined carbs and sugar are what are creating an obesity problem and I’m guilty of it! One year of cutting out these things and very easy daily exercise in down 36lbs!!! If you’re going to have sugar eat it naturally in fruits that contain fiber so your body can break it down instead of sending it straight to the pancreas.
I don’t watch calories at all. Actually some days I’ll have around 3-4000 calories and I still lose weight at the end of the week!
I’m young, but have really bad PVCs so I see a heart doctor. He told me that sugar and refined carbs are by far the worst thing for your heart. He said good healthy fats are important to overall health. On a disease level he said sugar is far more dangerous than smoking. Wow! No more sugar and refined carbs and my PVCs are way down. Maybe 1 or 2 a week when I was having 600 or more a day.

Lift4 Week 6 starts Friday Morning! Its really a good program. Some weighs, some cardio, some core. They even stress low or no weights are fine. The older we get the better weights become for our bodies. Build a little muscle, you'll feel great. Now of anyone has any good ideas on improving nutrition without living on salads I'm all ears. Nick- I told myself that after the 8 week program I could buy myself something pretty. Probably a new cart for the TT... Bribe yourself, you are worth it. Not sure I’m deserving of a Lehmann Decade! I’ll see! Doc told me water aerobics or yoga would be good but I’m not sure I have the energy level for those. Before anybody cracks off a joke about lack of energy, there are reasons beyond my control for having doubts, but I’m going to the gym later today to see if somebody can help. In my youth I loved going to the gym so much! I was there 5 days a week/ 3/5 hours each day! Never been so high as when I left the gym! I won’t be Vee shaped again but I’d love more muscle.

I'm not working out to lose weight. I'm working out because I can and it makes me feels better, aside from some muscle soreness. The soreness isn't bad though, reminds me of when I was younger and playing sports.

Just left the local Health and Wellness Center, I’m thinking of joining. It’s a nice facility and may slow down Father Time. Need to rebuild this body if possible.
Down 16 lbs since the beginning! 😁

Week 6 day 1 on the books. You can do it too.
That Freya S or Hana EL going to sound good in another 3 weeks. (Unless I need to buy that isolation transformer as mentioned in another thread)
Nick- life is short. If lehman decade is what you want and you can afford it, do it.
My wife and I have found Lose It to be an effective app for counting calories. It was much easier when we were both doing it 5 years ago. I got injured twice and now she doesn't need it as she lost 70lbs over 3 years and has managed to stay that weight.
I'm sure there are other good apps.

Time for me to jump in the proverbial pool. At my heaviest I was 285, currently 235, only change is my style of workout.

Today should be Week 7 day 1, but it is not. It was Week 6 day 4. It has me thinking.
Its ok to "fall off the wagon" for a day, a couple days, a week, a month or even longer. Its ok to fall off the wagon as long as you get back on.
This is exercise, dieting or whatever. Thos whole process is slow and continuous. You can do it. Little gains every day, every week add to big gains every year.

Little gains every day, every week add to big gains every year. I agree that these processes are slow and continuous, and little gains do add up to big ones over time. I'd be wary about falling off the wagon even for a short time, though, because once you fall off it is not always easy to get back on. I think daily discipline is important. Missing a day here and there is often unavoidable and sometimes you do need a break but personally I don't think one should feel that it's okay to fall off the wagon for a while. There's too much temptation to stay like that. Also, I think once you stick with a program and see the results, that will help provide the motivation to stay with it.

Joined the Athletic Club, I’ll start there on Monday. I will require a trainer to work with my doctors for the first month or so. Once we develop a plan I’ll make periodic reports so I don’t jeopardize my health.

Goals overachieved in that now down 29 pounds by end of September. Was looking at just 24! Complaints. None. Results? Way better and lots less painful than I thought it would be. Smoothies, and water and lots of exercise and controlling my protein and carb intake helps allot. Even if I don't lose anymore, I am allot happier now than when I was in late July. I just got a BMI scale with an application on my mobile to give me even more vital data for my health trends.
