My UMC-1 has been a mess for a long time. I tried to upgrade the firmware and now it won't even load it's software. It just keeps resetting itself over and over again. To be honest, it never worked like I expected it to. Any time particular audio formats were broadcasted it would lock up and had to be rebooted. Tough to watch a football game that way, I'd have to reboot it 10 times to get through a game! That was just one of several nagging issues.
My question, is it worth sending it back to get fixed? What kind of cost would that be from other's experiences? Any other recommendations? My experience with Emotiva has NOT been positive. I purchased an ERC, probably only used a few dozen times and now the CD's wont load - it's a brick. I love the idea behind the product line but I've not had anything close to this sort of unreliability with other manufacturers.
Thanks for any advice!

I think it's fair to say that there's been issues with their pre-pros. The rest of their product line is pretty solid imo. If you have an ERC-3, I think there were some reports of failures. I probably wouldn't mess with the uMC-1 myself. You clearly don't really like it. So why go through the trouble of fixing a unit that dissapoints you? Sadly there are very few standalone processors that aren't receivers as well. And those processors tend to be pretty expensive. However I also would not reccomend the MC-700. The HDMI switching is painfully slow and I didn't care for the sound quality.

My UMC-200 has been flawless since I purchased it used a couple of years ago. Do you have a budget to replace your unit? What amount were you willing to pay to repair your unit? Spend / save that for another processor.
