To the first question....
No, you CANNOT connect a USB WiFi dongle to one of the USB ports on the RMC-1 to WiFi enable it (they are "dedicated special purpose ports"). However, you can connect the Ethernet port on the RMC-1 to an Ethernet port on a WiFi router or extender.
Or, more simply, you can purchase something like this, which is specifically designed "to add WiFi support to devices that have network support built in but not WiFi support"...
This is from the manual ... “The Size screen will enable you to configure the sizes, crossover frequencies, and crossover slopes for your speakers, the configuration of your Rear Surround speakers, and the configuration of your subwoofers.”On the XMC-1 you can switch between 12 & 24 dB / octave (this is from memory, not at home) thanks. i saw that in the manual on page 56 but I didn't see any mention of slopes. I have a few other questions. 1. can a wireless dongle but connected to one of the usb ports? I don't have a hard wired network connection available in the room where I would place the xmc2. 2. Does it allow both height and top speakers to be configured for atmos/dts:x? in my current setup with a marantz 7705, I have front height and top rear. 3. Most subwoofers don't have a xlr connection. Are people just using converter cables to get their subwoofers connected?

You're only a little but off - and it's mainly a matter of terminology at this point. (The AK4490 DACs are fully balanced in both their normal Stereo Mode and their special Mono Mode...)
Each AK4490 DAC is a fully balanced stereo DAC... so each DAC chip has TWO FULLY BALANCED OUTPUTS. (One stereo pair of fully balanced outputs.)
The "special mono mode" is a way to cross connect THE TWO SEPARATE COMPLETELY BALANCED OUTPUTS into ONE SINGLE EXTRA HIGH QUALITY BALANCED OUTPUT. So each DAC chip can deliver either two fully balanced output channels.... Or one extra-high-quality balanced output channel.... (I guess you could think of it as sort of "double balanced" - but describing it that way is sort of confusing.)
Actually all models are fully balanced on all channels, it’s the dual mono mode of the DACs that’s increased on the RMC’s. We discussed this in the comparison thread, fully balanced amps should bring the same advantage to all of the processors. My understanding is that RMC1 and RMC1L runs each AKM DAC in fully balanced mode (mono mode). This means 1 DAC for each channel = 16 DACs. The XMC2 runs the front three channels and sub in fully balanced mode. All other channels 1 DAC services two channels(stereo mode) So the XMC2 should have 10 DACs. I hope this makes sense as this was described to me as the main difference between the XMC2 and the RMC1/RMC1L - how many channels are fully balanced. How much difference that means in sound quality, I’m not sure but for me personally, after my front 3 speakers, there is a drop off with my other speakers in terms of performance which is why I was totally fine with XMC2. If I had Revel Performa3 speakers all around and amps with fully balanced channels all around, then I probably would have looked into the RMC1L more. I have a buddy who has this setup so hopefully he will use his 40% card and get the RMC1L. These are the 2 use cases that I believe makes the most sense in determining which processor to get. There are other factors too like I like the way the RMC1 looks, I need that middle multi function knob, I can easily afford it and I want the best Emotiva unit, or I plan on getting the fully balanced setup so I’ll start with the RMC1 etc etc. 😊 Let me know if I’m mistaken though. Am I way off here?

Dirac accounts.
Please note that this is the latest current information..... (However, some minor details may change later.)
The version of Dirac Live that goes with the XMC-1 was a custom version - developed for us. The licenses for both the LE version that came with the XMC-1, and for the Dirac Live FULL for Emotiva upgrade to that version, are linked to the XMC-1. (Strictly speaking the licenses are not linked to a specific unit.)
So..... - if you have a license for Dirac Live LE for Emotiva, or if you purchased the upgrade to Dirac Live FULL For Emotiva, they will both work on any XMC-1 - those licenses DO NOT work for Dirac Live on any other of our units (they ONLY work on the XMC-1)
- those licenses DO NOT work for Dirac Live on any product from any other manufacturer - licenses for Dirac on other products, or versions of the Dirac software designed for other products, will not work on the XMC-1 - as of now there is no upgrade path to upgrade Dirac Live for the XMC-1 to the new version
The version of Dirac Live for the XMC-2, the RMC-1, and the RMC-1L will be the NEW VERSION of Dirac Live... - Dirac has specifically decided that this version will be "the same for everyone", so there will only be one version (the "full" version) - you will receive a license to this version when you purchase an XMC-2, RMC-1, or RMC-1L - you WILL NOT be able to run this version on an XMC-1 and you WILL NOT be able to run the XMC-1 version on the new processors - Dirac's roadmap includes several extra capabilities (and, as per current plans, some of those will be "cost extra options") (Note that NONE of these are currently available.)
So, to answer your question directly.... (as of what we know now): - you WILL NOT be able to take your current Dirac account over to the new processor - you will receive an entirely new Dirac license with your new processor - since there will only be one version/level of the Dirac software any "upgrade to the full version" would be moot anyway
Hi, just registering interest for this unit. Im in the UK so will have to wait a bit loger than you guys. I have a nad 758 with full licence dirac, im not overly happy with but thats another story. I assume ill be able to just take my dirac account over to the xmc2 if i buy one?

That's great to hear, I think many of us are hoping to be able to load more than one curve, ie have at minimum two curves so we could use one for multichannel and another for say 2ch, kind of like choosing what speaker preset for certain inputs, two Dirac presets and two speaker presets would be sweet, here's hoping Chad Dirac accounts. Thanks! I’m confident that the XMC2 will exceed my expectations. I wish I had an XMC1 and RMC1 to compare to but at least I can give a solid review of the XMC2 😊. Has it arrived yet? I hope we get some photos when you unbox, and then more info as you setup! 🤓 One area of particular interest will be what version of Firmware it’s running.

I got a processor birth certificate! It’s a nice personal touch. 😊
Now back to the grind of trying to get this setup by the weekend.

I really like the look of the xmc2 vs the RMC units... The knob in the middle makes me think it's a transformer with a big round nose. LoL. Looking forward to some reviews, I hope it works well and gets at least 2 Dirac presets. Might/Will probably take the plunge at that point.

Thank you...now I need the RMC-1L! Anyone have a link to the XMC-2 manual and the RMC-1 manual? Have you tried the product pages at the Emotiva website, they’re under the Specs & Downloads tab.

Have fun and keep us posted! 🎉 No they threw the T-shirt in there. I hooked up the left and and right speakers. The XMC2 started right up and I was able to watch Apple TV (but not 4K yet until the weekend). Music is very detailed. I can only play in reference stereo mode and it sounds very clear even in low volume. I always felt like my F208 sounded a bit bright with the XMC1 and the XMC2 is along the same lines - maybe a little less so. More to come. The menu structure is similar to the XMC1. I

AudioHTIT, tchaikThe firmware version is 1.5 dated 8/14. I’m not sure if I mentioned it earlier.

I am going XLR to XLR so I don’t need them but yes there are a lot of amps without XLR inputs.

I did use the UFL. This sounds so good right out the box...this weekend I’m gonna hook up my other speakers and to my LG OLED...I’m hoping the bugs that others had doesn’t apply to me. Even based on the two channel sound from Apple Music, I would wholeheartedly recommend the XMC2. Now, we will see there are dropouts and other stuff when I go 4K, but so far...I know it’s early...but it just works.

AudioHTIT, tchaikThe firmware version is 1.5 dated 8/14. I’m not sure if I mentioned it earlier. Great news that all the new models run on the same Firmware, the XMC-2 is benefiting from all the input the RMC users gave, and going forward all the models will feed each other. Sounds like you have a winner!

Thank you...now I need the RMC-1L! Have you tried the product pages at the Emotiva website, they’re under the Specs & Downloads tab. Since the RMC-1L is identical to the RMC-1 in every way except for the expansion slots, then the RMC-1’s manual should be the same.

If you get a 1L, just ignore all the expansion bay talk. Everything else is 100% the same. Happy to see these XMC-2s making it to people's homes They all share the same architecture and a lot of the same code so as we developed and fought our way through the bugs with the RMC-1, that in return helped program everything for the XMC-2 and RMC-1L.
