FWIW I see 8K large screens as being used as replacements for projectors in home theatres.

For 8K to be visibly/noticeably better than 4K it requires a massive TV. See the chart on optimal viewing distance here. www.petra.com/blog/2019/04/16/be-the-expert-8k-tv/I've heard that most 8K TV's are going to start at 77" and go up from there. I don't know about you guys but 77" is too large for my living room. My current PJ screen is 106" in my HT. I've held off switch to 4K in my theater until their prices drop low enough for me to get a reasonable price on something at least 80-85". I'd rather have a TV than a PJ next time. Still waiting. Wondering if the Emotiva HDBaseT device work well with the XMC-2? And I mean with all the heavy duty stuff like Dolby Vision and all 18gbs most demanding signal.

So here is a question for everyone. 8K/ 48 gig can only be sent down a maximum 6 foot long cable passively. Beyond 6 feet you have to go to active cables. How many of you are willing to invest 70.00 to 200.00 a cable? I'm just curious because going to 8K may sound wonderful, but the jump in cost is huge. So the responses here will give me an idea of whether or not 8K will take off or die on the vine as it were. I use a projector so I would spend that even for 4K if required for reliable operation. Not interested in 8K for a projector ... or anything else though. However, the broader question of 8K adoption is probably tied to the adoption of large screens in very small apartments, think expensive real estate in Japan and coastal China where consumers are affluent, with disposable income, just constrained on space. In these cases, the viewers may well be forced to sit close to their screens so 8K makes sense at large enough screen sizes, and all the electronics will be close together so no cable needs to exceed 6 feet. Similarly, PC and console gaming will be another driver. While current GPUs struggle with native 4K outside the higher end, there is the option to actually process at a lower resolution and then scale up the processed result to 4K, with apparently little perceived difference to native 4K. I expect to see this happen with 8K too. Gamers will sit very close to their screens and resolution matters more for gaming. Its probably why a number of HDMI 2.1 features are so gaming orientated as more gamers are using TV's rather than monitors for their big screens.

Mark I'm more or less in the same boat. I have a 110" screen with a 1080p PJ in my poorly light controlled HT. I would love to have a large flat screen but 85" will be the smallest I'd be willing to go. TCL said they will release 8k QD screens starting at 85" 1H '20 which suggests they will go even larger. Given how impressive their 8k TVs were at CES2019 they should impress and be competitively priced. I plan to get a new PJ or flat screen next year. It'll likely be 4K but it all depends on next year's products. It would be nice to do 8k so the device won't become obsolete too soon after purchase.

How stiff is the cable? Is it reasonably pliable? I want to get the 1.5ft version but I've run into probs with their old high end cables because they are so stiff that they put pressure on the HDMI ports. TIA. I should know on Friday when they’re due to be delivered. Definitely not stiff at all, quite pliable. If you’re familiar with the “Premium” certified HDMI cable that came with the Oppo UDP-203, these are a little bit larger diameter-wise. I quite like them and at this point, they’ll be what I use moving forward.

I use the Belkin Ultra HD HDMI cable. This cable was made with Apple to help support the max debit transfert of Apple TV..
I use couples of these cable (6 feets) with the XMC-2 and found the HDMI switch pretty fast and solid.

I did upgrade my TV to 4k last year so I ’m not going 8k for some years.. My projector is a 1080p on a 104” screen. That may see an upgrade, although not to 8k..
I use Supra HDMI cables for everything. I consider them to to be the best in price performance ratio. My cables are three 1m (3’ 4”), one 2m (6’ 8”) and a longer 8m (26’ 3”) for the projector. I use all passive cables, although Supra has active cables up to 100m in length supporting 20gbs. They support full 4k up to 10m passively.
I have never had a cable issue with any Supra cable through all the years of using them.

Replaced my cables recently with Ultra HDTV 4k HDMI "Premium Certified" cables. They are available from Amazon UK - not certain if they are available worldwide. My set-up was previously instable and I think that either several cables had failed or were operating "at the edge" of their capabilities. Since moving to these cables my system is now rock-solid and has given me no problems of any kind, switching perfectly (if a little slowly at times) between sources. I use 8 x 2M cables between sources and my Lumagen Video Processor and a Ruipro Hybrid Fibre Optic HDMI cable from the VP to my JVC NX7 Projector. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00Z9X0USK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

“Must be the cables” So now I have 1 HDMI 2.1 cable from Amazon and 2 Hdmi 2.0 premium certified cables from amazon. The HDMI 2.1 cable is feeding the video from the XMC2 to the TV. The picture from the Sony Blu-ray player is better than its ever been and things seem to lock in a little faster. While my Emotiva Z-HDMI cables have given me no reason to change them out, I’m highly curious if HDMI 2.1/8K cables will give a faster input change/ lock-on, or just not have problems with HDMI 2.0b/4K equipment, especially with the 48Gbps bandwidth. Thus I needed to take a break from the Weather Channel and ordered 4 of these. They should be here by next weekend, so I'll update my experience with them at that time. www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=31229&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8c2s8Oyy5AIVh56fCh3VnwHSEAUYASABEgIn5fD_BwEInteresting development with these "Monoprice DynamicView Ultra 8K Premium High Speed HDMI Cables" that started yesterday while streaming any number of movies from Disney+ on my ATV4K. The Disney+ App kept giving me the following on-screen message, "Oh No, Disney+ has detected an HDCP issue that is preventing your content from playing. To resolve the issue, please try a different HDMI cable and/or bypass your stereo equipment by connecting the device directly to your TV." I first changed out the 6ft Monoprice DynamicView cable with a 2m Emotiva Z-HDMI cable which fixed the problem, then tried a 3ft Monoprice DynamicView and this also fixed the problem, and then another 6ft Monoprice DynamicView cable which again gave me the warning. I now have swapped out all the Monoprice DynamicView cables from my other sources as well as the one from my RMC-1 to my LG OLED, with the Emotiva Z-HDMI cables I was using before. I can only conclude the 6ft Monoprice cables had an HDCP problem going from the ATV4K to the RMC-1. Odd that these 6ft cables have been working fine for over 6 months and now they fail?

I'm about to debut my new XMC-2. I have been using EMO XHDMI Cables. When I questioned the good people at EMO, they told me that my cables 'should' still work well as long as they are not over 2 meters.....all of my cables are 1 meter or less, so I am starting with them. We shall see.

With my XMC-2 currently using Monoprice Certified 4K cables as well as two Audioquest Slinky 4K cables. These are the thin ones. They may now be discontinued.
No issues.

I just ordered a new 4K TV (LG UN8570puc) and an XMC-2. What's the latest thinking on HDMI cables? I'll need to get one for the Roku Ultra to the XMC-2 (3') and one for the XMC-2 to the TV (~6-8').
Thoughts?

Thanks! I will order some of the Emotiva tomorrow. I couldn't find their cables and didn't think to look in "accessories". Mark

Crutchfield has Audioquest 4K HDMI cables on sale, basically half price because Audioquest has released 8K cables.
Cheapest ones are 1 meter for $20. Forget the name.....they are well built and some will still say they are too expensive.

I have the same cables and they work great, but I’m using a Yamaha processor. I’m waiting for them to receive my card and put an order in for the XMC-2. Crossing my fingers for just an easy quick swap out and it plays nice like the Yamaha.
