I dont think I'm expecting anything different, if any, sonically. But the thought of all wires going into one unit was appealing and the "new" factor of it. I'll get it all hooked up and see how it goes. Worse comes worse I'm out $70 or so shipping back within my 30 days. I didn't read that you already purchased it! Sorry to be a wet blanket. The XPA gen 3 series did have one improvement I noticed which was a bit stronger bass slam/dynamics compared to the UPA-1. I hope you enjoy it.

I'm been running a XPA-3 for my center and surrounds and 2 UPA-1's for the l/r for the last 9 years; all gen 1. I recently upgraded the system for Atmos and well, you know how it goes, once I upgrade one thing I've gone down the rabbit hole of upgrading others. So I added 2 a-100's to power the 4 tops. I'm running monitor audio gold 300's for the front l/r and the matching gold 350 for center. Surrounds are also ma gold wall mounts and atmos are canton gle pro's. I've been looking into the XPA-9 as an all in one but wondering if I'd be gaining or losing anything besides components footprint and more wattage on all channels? Or should I just be happy with the current set up for another 5 or so years since the prices have jumped so much since I even looked at another Emo amp? I should add this is for 95% home theater use. You’re asking the wrong questions. What you SHOULD be doing is kicking back with your favorite 95 percent film material and ask yourself if you’re totally happy with what YOU hear. Clear and clean at the desired volume? All configuration and SPL, room correction in order. etc. Bill

That's not how the upgrade itch works. The question is always: "this sounds really good, but how can I make it better?"

I read your post and disagree with your statement that he's asking the wrong questions. It really wasn't that complicated.

Chasing "better" is an endless game. If you enjoy that, go for it. I was on the treadmill for several years and ended up with a system worth more then my house - and when I sold it all I paid off my mortgage! I've shared this quote before and I'll share it again: "All audio is a compromise. The goal is to discover the compromises you are willing to live with."

Well Emo just got back to me and there is a xpa-9 b stock with minor scratches on the back for $1783 so I pulled the trigger. Let’s us know how you like it after you install it. That’s a pretty good price and by the time you sell all of your other amps I bet your total out of pocket won’t be that bad. I really have liked mine and I enjoy having less “boxes” in my cabinet. Well I got it all hooked up and as expected HT was just about the same. The only noticeable difference was the Atmos speakers were being pushed a little easier so I could tune those down a couple db. The biggest difference was 2 channel listening. The XPA-9 had a sound that I just didn't like. I can't pinpoint a word but I guess bright would be closest. It was like the characteristic of watching a NBA game; almost tinny sounding. Not as smooth, refined, and clean as my UPA-1's. I went back and forth between them for a few days and the xpa-9 is going back. So much for consolidating and having less blue lights.
