Wow! I think you've created a bunch of mirrors! When you get them installed you can use them to shave while you rock some tunes. Fantastic job!

Yeah, I'm definitely a flat black... Disappear in the darkness person. At least they are pretty and she's happy. 😂😂😂 You can always throw a flat black sheet of burlap over them when it's time to watch a movie. 😉 I spoke with my wife and after seeing the mirror finish on the bottoms of these she is in agreement that a flat sheen will be the way to go, at least on the tops of the front stage. I may do the whole of the front stage flat. It actually saves quite a bit of work having a flat finish, no color sanding or polishing . The rear subs and the rear surrounds will still have a gloss finish. The front wide speakers and the surrounds may have to be flat too though as they will be slightly in front of the field of view. My original plan was to have the surrounds be gloss orion silvermaxx but I think I am going to have everything in front view be black pearl with a flat finish and then the rear surrounds and rear subs will be the gloss finish orion silvermaxx for some nice contrast. This is the house of kolor gloss Orion Silvermax :

Thank you! It’s been a fun build. I have all this time on my hands because I lost my job due to COVID. I am in the process of opening my own company right now, in fact my loan was just approved today for the business. While I love the creative time it will be fun to get back to work very soon. Got some work done today. My family is out of town and the weather is nice for the next several days so I should be able to get some nice progress going here. Got the bottom taped off and flipped the box I am using polyester high build primer (Featherfill G2) instead of the more expensive house of kolor stuff just because the poly primer builds faster and is easier to sand. After this I will seal it with the house of kolor hybrid epoxy and spray color/clear. I spray this stuff on thick, if it runs no big deal it is getting block sanded anyway.

Well, ****. Basically I spent the entire day undoing what I did yesterday. I tried sanding the featherfill and it was like gel. I measure the mekp hardener by weight and followed the directions, plus I’ve used it before with good success. I called the jobber who gave me the reps info. We were able to isolate the problem: I got a bad batch of mekp. I thought it was weird that it was an amber color instead of clear. The poly primer didn’t harden as a result. I spent the day sanding uncured primer off the boxes. What a pain. The only way I could get it off was using 60 grit sandpaper on the DA, everything else would gum up immediately. All that work I did straightening the panels is likely undone now. I sprayed all four subs on the bottom corners using the featherfill and non-****ty mekp. Tomorrow I will pick myself back up and hopefully get more done. On a more exciting note, I purchased two new paint guns today, the Devilbiss DV-1 base and clear guns. The clear gun had to be ordered but I have the base gun. It should be a substantial step up from the 3M accuspray gun. I will continue to use the accuspray gun for primer though. -Trevor

I feel your pain. I hate going backwards on projects and having to redo. But it sounds like you're through that part and can resume progress.
Hope you have a great and productive weekend!

Ya, it is such a pain. I don’t mind sanding but I don’t love it either. When you have to repeat a step because of a product issue it is very frustrating. I spent the whole day spraying polyester primer. It took about a gallon and a half to spray a thick layer on all four subwoofer boxes. I am tired so I will call it for the day but tomorrow I will start blocking them out and as long as they look good I can spray sealer, base, and clear maybe by Sunday.

I didn’t get as much time with these today as I hoped. I blocked out one of the primed boxes and will have to shoot a couple more light coats to cover the spots where I sand through. I also want to make sure I have some layers built over the joint lines. When I sprayed the bottoms there was some joint telegraphing present on a few of them, it sanded out with color sanding but I was surprised to still see this despite the trenching. I am hoping to avoid any signs of the joint long term with having a few more layers of polyester primer over the top. I am working on something else for the theater as well. It is a DIY remote turn on box for the venu360. It’s kinda big at 3ru, I probably could have gotten away with a 2ru box. I got a nice beefy solid state relay, heat sink, power supply, a couple fans, and a temperature fan control board. I am also building a second one of these to control a couple crown xls amps for the garage in the future. That will be its own project though, I probably won’t start that until this fall (after I am finished with the theater and some speakers for my office... there just isn’t enough time!). -Trevor

Super boring progress but I am getting close to being done with these subs. All of them have been block sanded and coated with poly primer again. Two of the four subs have been blocked out to 400 grit and are ready for sealer, base, and clear. I got my new clear gun so I am excited to use these. I ordered a Tekna primer gun with 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, and 2.5 tips. I am really not happy about how my 3M accuspray handles the high build poly primer. I figured since I got a real base and clear gun a new primer gun was in order as well.

Hey guys,
I am back after a bit of a hiatus. I went on vacation with the family for the fourth and have been busy with my business for the last week. I got some work on these today but my time is going to be diminished as I am full steam ahead trying to get my new business off the ground.
I decided to try something a little different, I did a timelapse video of me doing some sanding. Two of the sub boxes are ready for final sealer, base and clear. The other two have been coated in polyester and just need sanded. I spent about 2 hours sanding two sides of two boxes today so I probably have about 4 hours of prep left before I can start color.
Process is: guide coat, DA with 180 grit, block sand edges with 180, guide coat, DA with 220, block edges 220, guide coat, DA with 360 dry, block sand with 400 wet.
Wet sanding MDF is fine as long as it is 100% covered with material. In this case I had a spot where I barely burned through the poly. I had some lifting of the grain under the filler so I had to dry it, block it again, and then go over it with some filler.
I'll get some more time in tomorrow, maybe tonight!

Some more progress today. All the subwoofer boxes are now sanded to 400 grit and ready to go. I should have my new primer gun tomorrow and be ready to spray sealer, base, and clear. These things are dangerously close to being done!
