I recently learned The A-300 is now back in stock, so I just may spring for it. All of the suggestions from all of you have been very much appreciated. I feel the A-300 would fit my needs without any looking back. Now, deciding on a pre-amp to go with it.....? I've been rocking an XSP-1 for about 5 years and it totally rocks. You can pick up a Gen 1 for about $500 used. Mostly cosmetic differences between Gen 1 and Gen 2. Also changed from THT to SMT on the boards with slight pathway changes.

The PT-100 will be a good match for the A-300.

Hi everyone,
I've read through and enjoyed reading all of the very helpful suggestions provided. All of which were very credible from experienced people. Buying the right stereo or surround sound equipment is a very daunting and personal task, and I do believe that all suggestions would result in a fantastic listening experience. For me, I felt compelled to stick with the components that I have narrowed down that [I feel} would be the best fit for my basement area and budget. During the next few weeks I will be setting up the A-300 amplifier with PT-100 preamp connected to T2 tower speakers, and sampling my favorite LP's via turntable, and discs via CD player. I have a good gut feeling about this setup. I will report back to let you all know how this setup compares to my other two systems in house.
All of your help has been very much appreciated!

The A-300 is a really solid amp. I had one for a few years running some outdoor speakers. For about one month I had it running my Mirage OMD-28s and it did an awesome job. You will be happy with it.

The A-300 will sound good and very similar to your A-700. But if you want to hear what the T2 can really do and get that last bit of performance, check out those PA-1's

PA-1 is to me, the obvious choice. Better, cleaner 4ohm output than the other budget choices. This amp will also be 'forward compatible' in any future system builds.
Don't just 'buy stuff'. Try a SYSTEM approach. Not all stuff that hooks up will do the OTHER stuff hooked up any good or show it at its best.
Getting OUT of the EMO Universe, you might consider an integrated amp. NAD? Parasound? Rotel? and many other choices. Some USED gear might suit, as well, and save $$$.
If you are going to a budget and for your written goals, NO NEED for seperates. A good integrated will be FINE, save shelf space and allow plenty of beer swilling, pool playing music.
It might be possible to recommend either the OUTLAW RR2150, as a used item OR go full-tilt with the 'upgrade' RR2160. Marantz makes a couple integrateds, one for about 600$, the PM7005 is about 80x2 @8ohms, which should be enough power..... Marantz watts are 'good' watts. BiAmp at this level is quite the waste of resources, IMO. Very few advantages with that approach UNTIL you start taking stuff apart and going to a line-level crossover, at which time your budget has been Vaporized and your Credit Card MELTED.

I'll Second the PA-1
Good enough to survive a couple upgrade cycles, at least.
As for a preamp? Parasound P5 is now coming on the used market and will be reasonable. The older P3 is probably still out there, too, and maybe 200$ to 300$ all-in.
The new P6 is probably more than you want to spend but will be part of your system for a long time. And thru many upgrade cycles.
IMO, the 'trick' is to NOT buy exactly what you need but something which will survive an upgrade cycle or more. Let's say you want better or less sensitive speakers? A300? I'm not in love with it's 4ohm performance.
Thinking ahead has always served me well and took some time getting used to....
